Recently, I was bouncing some ideas around in my head, thinking up various themes for online slots that I think would be fun to play. I was thinking about board game themes, movie themes, holiday themes, and more. And I’m going to be honest; I think I hit the jackpot on some of these ideas. In fact, I’m not sure why these games don’t already exist.
Please note that these games do not exist! This is just a list of online slot themes that I think would be fun to play if they did exist.
Here’s my list of top 5 crypto slots that don’t exist but should.
Slot #1: UNO
I used to love playing UNO with my family when I was a kid. If you don’t know, UNO is the classic card game where your goal is to be the first to eliminate every card in your hand before the other player does. But you are constantly being thwarted by your opponents with action cards that force you to add more cards to your hand.
UNO – the slot will use a lot of the same imagery that you are used to, but the action cards will work differently and trigger the in-game features.
- Draw 2 = x2 multiplier for each Draw 2 card on your payline
- 1 Draw 2 = 2x multiplier
- 2 Draw 2 = 4x
- 3 Draw 2 = 6x
- 4 Draw 2 = 8x
- 5 Draw 2 = 10x
- Reverse = Respin activated, but reels spin in reverse
- Skip = exploding symbol, will explode and be replaced with a random symbol
- Wild = Wild Symbol
- Draw 4 = Scatter
- 3 Draw 4 = 6 Free Spins
- 4 Draw 4 = 8 Free Spins
- 5 Draw 4 = 10 Free Spins
I would be really excited to see a game provider release a UNO-themed online slot, and of course, this is just my own original concept for how the game could look. But it could be a really unique slot with easy-to-implement features.
Slot #2: The Neverending Story
The 80s are back in full swing, and the hunger for such nostalgic content never appears to be decreasing. The Neverending Story is a 1984 fantasy/family film about a boy reading a book of a fantastical land filled with magic and interesting characters.
I thought up this concept thinking about how much fun I had playing the online slot The Goonies and The Goonies Return from Blueprint Gaming. I imagine this game playing out much like those slots. Symbols would have all your favorite characters, including Bastian, Atreyu, The Childlike Empress, and of course, Falkor. The wild symbol would be the Auryn, the double serpent crest from the book’s cover.
Just as in the Goonies, there would be a bonus wheel for players to spin for a chance to play one of six bonus games.
- Falkor’s Free Spins – 5 free spins + sticky wilds
- Teeny Weeny’s Snail Multiplier Spins – increase your multiplier along the snail’s trail
- Atreyu and Artax Free Spins – 8 free spins with full reel wilds
- Auryn’s Treasure Bonus – a coin collector game where you receive 3 respins that reset every time you land a new coin
- Sphynx Gate Free Spins – 10 free spins with exploding symbols
I had to admit this concept needs a bit more fleshing out, but the bones are there for a great game, and I would love to see these characters brought back for an exciting online slot adventure.
Slot #3: Fire Island
So, piggybacking off of creating a new game theme off an already existing concept, I bring you Fire Island – an LGBTQ version of Microgaming’s Love Island. I know Love Island is based on a TV show, but this concept would still mimic that game.
At the start of Love Island, you have to choose your character you play as. If you choose a female character, you can only match with boy characters. If you choose a male character, you can only match with girl characters. Fire Island will expand the spectrum to create an all-inclusive game.
At the start of Fire Island, you will still select a character but all characters are LGBTQ:
- Lexie (female) – matches with female characters
- Bryan (male) – matches with male characters
- Callie (female) – matches with both male and female characters
- Taylor (trans woman) – matches with both male and female characters
- Enrique (non-binary) – matches with both male and female characters
Why do we need a game such as this? On average about 20% of the world’s population is estimated to be LGBTQ. Likewise, roughly 20% of the iGaming Industry is Made of LGBTQ+ Individuals. Yet there are very few games that can be dubbed specifically as an LGBTQ-themed slot game outside of a few Wizard of Oz and rainbow-themed games.
This is a concept designed for the igaming industry to branch out and create a game for a demographic generally overlooked by casinos. This would also be a great game for crypto casinos to promote during PRIDE month every year and could help create a new niche of games geared towards LGBTQ players.
Slot #4: Mortal Kombat
This is the last online slot concept on my list where I’m pirating already existing games to create a new theme. In 2020, NetEnt released their online slot Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. The game was absolutely brilliant, combining the joys of arcade game action with online slot reels. I loved it!
Mortal Kombat – The Online Slot will play out in a similar way as NetEnt’s Street Fighter slot. Players will get to select the character they play as and combat against other characters from the game. The amount of damage inflicted on your opponent will be determined by the spin of the reels.
Other in-game features would include:
- Cluster pay wins
- Avalanche reels
- Flawless Victory bonus
- Fatality Free Spins
Characters to choose to play as would all be from the original MK game:
- Johnny Cage
- Kano
- Liu Kang
- Raiden
- Scorpion
- Sonya Blade
- Sub-Zero
Goro and Shang Tsung would still be in-game opponents.
Slot #5: 9 to 5
Okay, my fifth and final concept to present is a completely original idea for an online slot. I had originally thought about a Dolly Parton-themed game because I love Dolly; she reminds me of my grandma. But as I continued thinking it through, I decided that creating a game based on Dolly’s most memorable film could be an even better idea (because you get Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as characters too)!
9 to 5 is a 1980 comedy about sexual harassment and gender equality in the workplace. The game will be a standard online slot with very few frills but lots of charm to pull in fans of the film. When it starts up, the background music will be the intro music for the “9 to 5” song.
Symbols will be characters from the movie in iconic moments. Here’s how I envision it:
- High Paying Symbols
- Dolly Parton – dressed in her cowgirl costume
- Jane Fonda – wearing her signature scarf, glasses, and hat
- Lily Tomlin – as her character dressed as Snow White
- Low Paying Symbols
- Typewriter
- Cup of coffee
- Rotary phone
- Time card
- Scatter Symbol
- Dabney Coleman (the boss man) – tied up in harness and pulley
Quotes from the film will come from various matching symbols and will include, “What are you, a man or a mouse? I mean, a woman or a wouse?” and “Forget about your wife! I mean, you may be hers in the evening, but you’re my boy from nine to five!” The chorus from the hit song “9 to 5” will play during the free spins round.
Final Thoughts
