As the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. But, not everyone knows the second part of it that says “ but the second mouse gets the cheese.” Why? Because the first mouse is nearly decapitated in the mousetrap of course.
Are there any mousetraps in Rumble Ratz Hold the Cheese? Well, there’s an evil cat looking to get its sharp claws on you but that’s about it. A little life or death situation is good in terms of getting the adrenaline pumping so I’m excited to give this bad boy a go and tell you all about my experience.
Believe it or not, one of my buddies in high school actually hated cheese to the point that when it was time for pizza, he had to tell them to hold the cheese, just like these Rumble Ratz by Kalamba Games.
Watch out, Ratatouille – I’m coming for you!
If You Can’t Stand the Heat…
I like the dimmed kitchen setting Kalamba has chosen. I mean, what better setting for the rats to track down and get their paws on the cheese. To them, cheese is the equivalent to gold, which is the shiny color it’s been given as well.
The cute little rodents going up and down on the reels as you play are hard not to like. Perhaps the characters could have been a size bigger but it’s not a major issue.
As you play, you’ll start to hear the cat making sounds and it’s actually pretty scary and I don’t think I would be too cocky if I was one of the rats. I have a cat and I know what they can do so when I hear that sound, I’m paying attention!
Besides the game data below and having a 6 x 4-6 reel setup, you’ll be playing with 46,656 paylines, which is pretty nice.

Learn the K-RAISE Mechanics
Kalamba’s features are a little different than most, which makes their games a breath of fresh air at times. Rumble Ratz Hold the Cheese features the K-RAISE mechanics, meaning that each column height is dynamic, which can change the way the paylines work.
It’s the C-CASH symbols that do most of the work though. Appearing as cheese on a plate, it comes with a cash value attached. When one of them shows up, the value will be collected at the top of the reel it sits on.
The way K-RAISE comes into play is whenever there are less than 6 rows to a reel, landing the cheese can randomly result in the little rat opening up another row. Obviously you’ll want to play with as many rows as possible but you are running the risk of coming face to face with the cat when your reel is fully exposed.
If that happens, your K-CASH will be yours at the same time as the cat will come across the top and smack the rat down two steps, meaning your reel will only have 4 rows once again.
The challenge is to work yourself up and expose as many rows as possible in order to collect the cash sitting up top.
Use the Buy Bonus
Kalamba was kind enough to include the Buy Bonus, as per usual. I’m always tempted to take this shortcut but I decided to wait a little longer to see if I could manage to get there “on my own.”
How to Get Free Spins
Within no more than 5 spins after my decision not to use the Buy Bonus and pay for Free Spins, I was lucky to score the 3 scatters needed to trigger them anyway. It’s not often that happens, at least not to me, so obviously I was very happy with my decision to save my money.
The 3 scatters will get you 3 Free Spins, which sounds pretty lame if you ask me. Little did I know this is more of a Hold & Spin type of bonus round where your 3 Free Spins will be reset when you score a cheese platter win.
Your K-CASH will also be transformed into a multiplier. You can see your multiplier as it fills up the meter on the right hand side. The multiplier will build until you run out of spins and will be added to your total score when it’s all said and done.
Want to Try Again?
Here’s something I didn’t expect. At the end of the bonus round, a question pops up on your screen, giving you two options:
- Continue
- Try Again
Unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough to screenshot it because I wasn’t expecting it and wasn’t quite sure what it even meant. I figured I might as well Try Again and see where things go. Well, all it led to was the Buy Bonus! This of course meant that I could try again if I wanted to BUT I had to pay for it via the Buy Bonus.
I wasn’t in the mood to pay so instead I changed my decision and “continued” back to the base game instead.
Regardless of my decision, I actually liked getting the option and even though it’s just a matter of the Buy Bonus and you can get there yourself, I think some players will jump on the offer, believing they’re getting a deal of a lifetime.
Rumble Ratz Hold the Cheese – Pass or Play?
Rats, cats and golden cheese in the kitchen isn’t necessarily the optimal setting for my regular choice of slot but Kalamba are known for having good games. I’m glad I gave Rumble Ratz Hold the Cheese a shot because I had a good time.
I really enjoyed the look of it all but for me, the challenge for any game is to keep my attention, which these rats managed to do with ease. Even in the base game, thanks to K-CASH and K-RAISE, there was something fun to focus on with each and every spin.
Kalamba did a good job puppeteering both rats and the vicious cat, resulting in a fun slot that I’m sure you will enjoy. Am I saying it’s a Play? Yes ✅
