When it’s time to dive into our own little casino bubble and take a break from the real world, we all have our favorite go-to in terms of games. Some trust the magic of cards, others turn to craps or Roulette, while most of us prefer to spin the slot reels.
One of the casino industry’s leading software providers, SOFTSWISS, recently published an interesting analysis. Based on Game Aggregator data from July of 2022 until June this year, the numbers will give us an interesting insight of the situation.
In order to put it into perspective, the results cover multiplier markets across the globe. Keep reading and I will take you through Top 5 Game Categories in the European, Asian and Latin American market.
1) Europe
There’s no denying that slots are very popular in Europe. According to SOFTSWISS the percentage has dropped slightly during the time of the data collection. Still sitting nicely above the 81% mark, I don’t see it dropping much lower than that anytime soon.
The fact that Blackjack and other card games are standing strong as the second most popular option makes sense as well. According to the data, through the test period, Craps saw a substantial increase in total bets sum, which is quite interesting.
Most Popular Games
As far as the actual games go, they usually change over time. Even if you have a favorite slot, I think the level of success you have plays a big part in how long you keep playing the same one.
Interestingly enough, according to the SOFTSWISS data, Europeans seem to enjoy Gates of Olympus, Big Bamboo and Midas Golden Touch the most. The popular games did change from quarter to quarter, meaning my above statement must be true.
Most Popular Providers
For the European gaming sector of 2022-2023, the top-performing game providers include Amatic, Amusnet (EGT), BGaming, Evolution Gaming, Pragmatic Play, Push Gaming, and Relax Gaming. Their positions in the rankings also experienced subtle shifts from quarter to quarter.
2) ASIA
The Asian casino market tends to be a bit different than the European one but looking at the SOFTSWISS data, it seems very similar. Slots are even more popular in Asia and I believe Pachinko probably has a lot to do with it.
As you can see in the graph above, slots continue to hold a prominent position in the Asian gaming landscape, with their market share exceeding 81% compared to other categories.
Most Popular Games
Believe it or not, Gates of Olympus claimed the title of the most popular game in Asia in Q4 2022, and has maintained its leading position since. You know the saying ‘God works in mysterious ways’? Am I wrong in saying the Greek Gods are looking to take over market after market.
Another popular game on the Asian market is Bonanza Billion while Hot Fruits lost its spot in the top rankings during the second quarter of 2023.
Most Popular Providers
A lot of the popular providers from the European market also have a strong grip in Asia. Evolution Gaming, Pragmatic Play and BGaming all secured a constant top five position over the past four quarters for the review.
Other providers worthy of mentioning are 1spin4win and Amusnet (EGT).
3) LATIN AMERICA
So what about the LatAm market? Well, slot machines do dominate here as well although with a much lesser margin. With “only” 59.1%, Slots should feel the pressure from Roulette (21.8%). Ok, maybe it’s not that close but the gap isn’t big compared to the other markets.
I actually like the fact that it’s more widespread in terms of what people play as even Cards (11.5%) and Lottery (6.1%) are showing strong numbers.
Most Popular Games
Based on the numbers SOFTSWISS managed to collect, the most popular games were:
- Roleta Brasileira – 8.27%
- Aviator – 5.97%
- Gates of Olympus – 5.24%
- Sweet Bonanza – 3.44%
- Crazy Time – 3.14%
Would you look at that… the Gates of Olympus made its way to LatAm as well.
Most Popular Providers
In terms of what providers were the most popular among the Latin American players, the top 5 spots were taken by Pragmatic Play, Evolution Gaming, Playtech, BGaming and Spribe.
A Word From Inside the LatAm Market
SOFTSWISS does of course have “boots on the ground” and Carla Dualid is the Regional Business Development Manager for SOFTSWISS in Latin America. She was kind enough to share some market insights:
“In the context of online gambling, players in Latin America may differ from players in Europe in several ways. Most Latin American players bet through mobile devices and prefer online play. Local casino slot players tend to place small but regular bets, which distinguishes them from European online casino players, who, in turn, bet less frequently, but wager larger sums on slots.
Speaking about the LatAm market, we should keep in mind that Brazil is the most active player in it. Such factors as economic potential, increasing Internet penetration, mobile accessibility, and regulatory changes are making the Brazilian market more attractive for operators.”
I hope you enjoyed reading this interesting information as much as I did.
