No matter how badly a lot of players, including myself, want to see a good sports slot it seems like it’s too much of an ask. Don’t get me wrong, there’s been quite a few of them released over the years but it’s no secret that they have all been s**t.

It seems to be extremely challenging to figure out the secret formula and combine the two into a good game. In other words it looks like we’ll have to face facts and accept that it’s not going to happen, at least anytime soon.
Basketball is another sport that has been featured in a couple of games but it’s not until now that I’ve actually seen a game that brings in other elements than just symbols. Evoplay are the ones bringing B Ball Blitz to our attention and truth be told, it’s definitely different than most.

With the NBA playoffs being played as we speak, the release date is hardly a coincidence and hopefully B Ball Blitz can ride the wave and gather some interest from players.

Meet Me at the Free Throw Line
As you can see, the entire game is played at the free throw line. In other words Shaq’s worst nightmare! I feel that the vibe is very authentic for once and the graphics combined with the sound effects makes you feel like you’re on an actual court. Before even taking a single shot, the game is already better than the majority of the others. Nice job, Evoplay.
Click and Shoot
In terms of the gameplay, it’s all very simple. Even though you’re basically shooting free throws, there is a defender in the way and he’s looking to block your shots from going in the basket. All you need to do to shoot is to click on the ball. If you rather click on the backboard, you have that option as well.
Despite being straightforward in terms of how to play, the game had me fooled for a long time but I can’t blame anyone other than myself for letting it happen. Keep reading and I will tell you where I messed up.

Increase your multiplier by scoring baskets
How to Score and Increase Your Multiplier
Once you get started, in order to win you need to score. That goes without saying. If you look on the right side, you can see a row of multipliers. You will start off with a 2x. When you shoot and score, a green light will go off and you can see your multiplier skip to the next step.
In the screenshot you can see me scoring and reaching 4x. Not only does it show on the right, you will also see your current multiplier on the backboard.

Miss and You’ll Have to Start Over
For you to keep climbing the multiplier meter, you will have to keep scoring without a miss. Red means you’ve missed. As soon as you miss or the defender blocks your shot, you will have to start over from the beginning with a 2x.
Score a 20x multiplier
This is Where I Went Wrong
After having scored on 4 consecutive shots, my multiplier reached 20x. That’s only one step away from the maximum 32x for which you’ll have to make 5 shots in a row. The entire time, I figured I just shot and every step was a win. Man was I wrong!
In order to actually cash in on your shots, you need to click on the collect symbol that can be found next to the ball, on the right side next to your balance. If you don’t, you won’t get any of the wins which turned out to be exactly what I had been doing for quite a few shots.
Don’t forget to click Collect or you won’t get your winnings
Keep in mind, every time you collect your win, your multiplier will start from the beginning again. So, in order to win bigger, you’ll have to risk it and build the multiplier for a while before clicking collect.

Get to the Max Multiplier
Scoring the 5 consecutive shots needed for the maximum 32x multiplier isn’t easy but I did manage to do it twice. You’ll immediately get the win for it but then the multiplier drops back down to 2x which was a bit disappointing.
Don’t let the defender block your shot
Golden Ball/Golden Shot
This one confused me because according to the rules of the game, there’s a feature known as the Golden Ball/Golden Shot. The reason why I’m confused is that I didn’t see a Golden Ball once and I played for quite a while.
The rules states:
“During the game, your shot can become a game-changer, a Golden Shot. When you make a basket, it turns gold and doesn’t just earn you the next reward, it moves you one step ahead. For example, if you were on the second shot out of five, and it turns into the Golden Shot, you get the reward for the third shot right away. It’s a simple twist that takes you further in your winning streak!”
I can’t remember ever seeing anything like this and I believe I managed to do everything else in the game. Maybe it’s a geo location issue or I have just completely missed it but yeah, I am a bit confused over this one.
Hopefully you’ll have better luck than me with this part of the game.

B Ball Blitz – Pass or Play?
Judging by my writing, you can probably tell that I actually enjoyed playing this game. It actually managed to bring some familiar elements from the court, which felt like a treat.
One thing that I noticed which isn’t very realistic is the type of spins you can have on the shots. Even if you shoot in the top left corner of the backboard, the ball can still spin into the basket. Just take it for what it is and enjoy yourself.
A bigger issue with a game like this is the fact that since there aren’t a lot of extra features. This can quickly make playing feel a bit boring because it’s just the same thing over and over again with a limited number of outcomes for each shot. You can’t spend too long at this game but it’s a great change of scenery from playing other games.
Overall though, it’s still one of the better sports games I’ve come across in a while and I’m happy to see Evoplay add it to their portfolio.
