American cinema giant AMC will be open for Bitcoin business at the end of the year after meeting strong demands from moviegoers.
Cinephiles and Bitcoin Sitting In a Tree
Let’s be real, when it comes to movies, nothing beats watching the latest Hollywood blockbuster on the majestic screen at an AMC movie complex. Even with all the latest technology and immediate access to an endless supply of movies from your comfortable couch at home or even more so directly to your phone, it’s just not the same.
Standing in line for popcorn and snacks goes hand in hand with the whole experience and now you do it all, using your beloved BTC.
Largest Movie Theatre Chain in the World
Founded as early as 1920, the AMC has been a major player in the American movie industry for a long time and has made it all the way to the top as the largest movie theatre chain in the world. Its chairman and CEO, Adam Aron, just revealed the company’s plans to meet the demand and wishes of many fans, hoping to be able to use their ever growing Bitcoin collection at AMC movie theatres.
The needed infrastructure will be ready to roll and accept BTC payment for online movie tickets and concessions by the end of 2021.
Numbers Are Back on Track
With a horrific 2020 in the books, the AMC 2021 Q2 results shows the company is definitely getting back on track. Last year’s minimal $18.9 million revenue in Q2 looks like a clerical error as this year’s number reached a much more appealing $444 million.
Last year got so bad that the company was heading down the path towards bankruptcy at a rapid pace, leaving the cinema operator no choice but to close down venues. Managing to survive after all, seeing the latest and much improved Q2 numbers is fantastic news. Although not completely “out of the woods” just yet, this will surely give the company the immediate boost it needs, heading into the future.
More Changes to Come
Taking the necessary steps into the future by adopting BTC payments isn’t the only focus this year as AMC has even bigger plans. A dozen new locations will open their doors to the public across the U.S., Europe and the Middle East.
So, if you want to mix up your BTC spending outside of online gambling, look no further than a comfy seat in an AMC movie theatre near you, sharing popcorn with your favorite date.
