One of my favorite slot features of them all is Hold and Win. You may have seen other names for it, such as Hold & Spin etc. but the concept is of course the same. Most often you have to land around 6 of a certain symbol to trigger it, which sometimes seems a lot harder to pull off than 3 scatters.
3 Spins – All or Nothing
In the majority of slots, you will start off with 3 spins and whenever you land whatever symbol is in play, your count will reset till 3 again. In my experience, you may think it’s over but on the very last spin you will land a symbol and get another 3.
See For Yourself
I wanted to take a look at some Hold and Win features so that you can see for yourself what I am talking about and get an idea why I enjoy it. I can’t say I have a favorite game with this feature because there are quite a lot of them and I’m a fan of most.
Domnitor’s Treasure Hold and Win – BGaming
For the first example I want to take you on a trip back to medieval times in the 2023 release by BGaming – Domnitor’s Treasure Hold and Win.
You Have a Choice
Players have the option of using the Buy Bonus feature, which I have always been a fan of and something I think all slots should have but that’s another story. What’s different about the Buy Bonus in Domnitor’s Treasure Hold and Win is the fact that BGaming gives you the option to choose which type of bonus round you would like to play.
- Free Spins
- Hold & Win
Normally you would only be able to play Free Spins so this was a very nice surprise and considering I was looking for Hold & Win features, it made things a lot easier for me.
Cash Value vs Multipliers
I would say that in most cases when you play Hold & Win, the symbols will include cash prizes and/or Jackpots. When you play Domnitor’s Treasure Hold and Win, it’s all about trying to collect multipliers.
The possible multipliers in this particular game are 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 10x, 14x, 16x, 18x, 20x, 24x, 30x, 100x times your bet.
Let’s Add Them All Up
Every time one lands, your count will reset to 3 spins but eventually you will run out of spins. When this happens, all your multipliers will be added up before you will find out about your total win.
Hot to Burn Hold and Spin – Pragmatic Play
Pragmatic Play goes a little bit against the grain with this game because once you’ve reached the Hold & Spin, instead of the normal 3 attempts, you will actually get 4 of them. How mighty generous, right? Your count will reset like always when you land a symbol.
Fill up the Entire Grid for the Grand Jackpot
The 4 spins instead of 3 isn’t the only way Hot to Burn Hold and Spin is different from many other Hold & Win slots. As you can see in the image above, I actually managed to fill up the entire grid. In most cases, that means you will win the Grand Jackpot (or whatever the biggest one is called).
Take Me To the Big Money Wheel Bonus
Without checking, I thought that would be the case here as well. Instead, I was taken to something called the Big Money Wheel Bonus.
So, even though you won’t be scooping up a Jackpot, you can still pick up additional prizes. As long as the wheel stops on a cash value, you’ll get another spin until you end up on a blank section.
Up to 5,000x Your Stake
If you are curious about the prizes during this part of the bonus round, they can be anywhere from 10x all the way up to 5,000x your stake, which is basically a Jackpot after all.
15 Dragon Pearls Hold and Win – 3 OAKS Gaming
While cash, multipliers and jackpots are great to win, there are other parts of the Hold and Win feature that are worth knowing about. For example, in 15 Dragon Pearls Hold and Win you can pick a +1 symbol. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that it means an extra spin and I don’t think anyone says no to that.
Collecting All Values
Another modifier that can be found in the game are different color pearls. You can see a green one in the image above and when it lands, it is empty and without value but not for long.
High Value Symbol
This symbol will collect all other values on the screen, giving you a pearl with a high value attached to it. This will of course be added up together with the others at the end of the run. This is just a version of it and others can be found in a variety of Hold and Win games.
Hold and Win Graphics
I appreciate the fact that the providers, at least some of them, try to be creative with their symbols instead of just using generic ones. Red apples, flaming suns, gold coins, diamonds, you name it… they are all in play.
Take a Bit Out of the Red Apple
Magic Apple Hold and Win by Booongo has a Snow White focus and I think it’s nice how they decided to use the red apple for the bonus feature as you can see in the image.
The Golden Buffalo Coin
Buffalo Hold and Win opted to go for the classic gold coins but with its own Buffalo symbol as the cherry on top.
Hold and Win Jackpots
You often see games posting their Jackpot at the top of its reels and they work as dangling carrots as you try to get your hands on one of them.
Mini or Major
The Hold and Win feature is usually a great place for them. I would say the most common way to win them is to see a jackpot symbol land on the reels instead of a regular symbol. These are always the smaller ones such as the Mini or Major.
To score the Grand Jackpot, you typically have to fill the entire grid which isn’t easy. How big they are varies between games and providers.
Hold and Win or Free Spins?
I’m sure you have had your own experiences with Hold and Win bonus rounds. To be honest, I often prefer it over Free Spins. Do you agree? Would you rather take a shot at a Hold and Win instead of boring Free Spins? Let me know in the comment section below.
If you want to play the games referred to in this article, you can find them at BitStarz, Fortune Jack, Wild Tornado among other casinos.
