The online casino & betting industry continues to be a fast-growing sector and is even more dynamic than ever before. Much of it has to do with the players of course and the different types of players enjoying their casino time from all corners of the world.
With the amount of options available to us 24/7, we can afford to be picky. If one casino can’t provide us with what we want, we’re off to the next one. Considering the iGaming market is expected to reach 138 billion dollars and then some by year 2028 and entertain as many as 243.2 million players, I don’t see things coming to an end anytime soon.
Who Are the Players?
Being in such a competitive industry, casinos spend a lot of time and money on trying to figure out who is playing and what these players are looking for. To give you some insight into what the average player from different regions of the world looks like, the company SoftGamings has presented some research on the matter.
Some Quick Facts
- European, Canadian, and Australian players enjoy slots, Blackjack, Roulette, and Baccarat the most
- Players from India are mostly passionate about sports betting, especially cricket
- Kenyan and Nigerian players love their European football leagues soccer
- Latin Americans also love football but prefer to bet on their domestic leagues.
- The number of active players in Europe is 8x more than Latin American players and as much as 18x the number of players from the Asian market.
Different Strokes for Different Folks
Just because you live in a certain part of the world doesn’t necessarily mean you behave like the rest of the people around you. I’m about to show you some data regarding players from different markets so here’s your chance to see if you “fit in” or perhaps you connect more to players from another area and should consider packing things up and moving.
I’m only kidding of course but who knows, maybe it all makes sense once you’re done reading.
1) Europe
Europeans L-O-V-E their gambling, which is of course the reason why Europe is also the largest gambling market in the world. The highest market share of online betting belongs to the Swedes (60%), while the UK takes 34% of the market.
- As many as 68.3% of European players do all their gambling on the phone
- 6% of UK players between august 25-55 will bet at least once per 3 months
- 83.2% of the gambling market in England are male
- The average European online gambler is male, between ages 18 and 35
2) Canada
Here’s a market that I feel tends to fly under the radar a little bit. Sports betting, slots, Bingo and Roulette are dear to the Canadians and the most popular choice for 60% of the players.
- 71% of ages 18 to 39 are playing online
- Canadian online casino players are split between 82% Men and 18% Women
3) Australia
In terms of equality, no other market can stand up against Australia as when it comes to the land down under, the male vs female ratio is 54% vs 46%.
- The majority of plates are between 30-49 years old
- 15% of the population bets on sports on a regular basis
4) Latin America
It’s difficult to get an overall grip of the entire region because each country can vary so much from one another. For example, believe it or not but as many as 63% of all Brazilian casino players are women! Looking at some of the other countries in South America, their share is sitting at a much lower 17.5%.
Obviously there’s an incredible interest in football, bringing a huge interest in sports betting, but also slots and Roulette.
- The average age of Brazilian players is from 20 to 44 years old
- Largest gambling markets are Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Argentina
- The Colombian market has increased 2,908% in only 3 years
5) Asia
China has a ban on almost all forms of gambling besides the lottery, (Macao being the exception) but that doesn’t stop Chinese players from gambling. There are plenty of online casinos in the Philippines that cater specifically to these players.
- Mobile betting is at 72%
- Women only stands for 6% of the players
- Slot machines are dominating the market with an overall 80% market share
6) USA
For a nation that loves sports betting and supports casino hotspots like Las Vegas and Atlantic City, it has a tough time getting all 50 states onboard.
- The typical American player is male between the ages of 25 and 35
- America’s favorite online casino game is online poker.
- 70% of American online gamblers would pay for AI tools to help them make informed betting decisions.
Multiple Factors Makes Things Difficult
No matter the data from each region, there’s actually nothing out there that describes the average online gambler. It’s very much dependent on your actual location and unique personal interests and because it varies so heavily, it makes it extremely difficult to pinpoint.
Whether you belong among the Baby Boomers, Millennials or even Generation Z, prefer to play on the go or at home, we are all part of the online casino phenomenon.
As a matter of fact, I wrote an article the other week about how online casinos appeal to different generations. in case you missed it, I recommend taking a look at it as I find the data interesting.
I wish you a very successful day at the spinning slot reels, Craps table, Dice table or whatever YOUR preference is.
Enjoy!
