Sniffing out clues and solving mysteries is always fun but did you know that Ratatouille and Stuart Little have a cousin who’s the Sherlock Holmes of the rodent family? I don’t know if they do or not but there is a detective mouse playing the main character in the brand new Mystery Mice slot by Pragmatic Play.
Cops, villains and Sherlock’s most prized possession, his pipe, await on a grand 6×6 tumbling reel grid. Can Mystery Mice live up to the legend of Dr Watson’s sidekick? Let’s find out.
Pixar Worthy Animations
There are few providers that can compete with Pragmatic when it comes to graphics. They always deliver, which is one of the reasons why I’ve always been a fan. It’s never a guarantee that the game itself will live up to your expectations but at least it’s a pleasure looking at it. Based on the graphics themselves, I can picture Mystery Mice being turned into a Hollywood movie.
I find the big 6×6 grid to be an excellent choice as I do believe that size matters, even in slots. The hanging sign and dimmed street lights set the mood and it doesn’t take a genius to pick up on the theme when you see the mouse in full Sherlock Holmes gear.
The characters in the screenshot are the most valuable symbols and I think you agree about being able to see the trio in the next Pixar movie, right? A fun little detail in the game is the fact that every time you score a win, the mouse detective will pull out his magnifying glass, as if he’s the one spotting the win.

Winning Combos and Tumble Feature
In order to score wins you need to create clusters. It takes a minimum of 5 connected symbols to get the job done and with a big grid like this, it’s slightly easier. When that’s done, the Tumble feature kicks in.
By now I’m sure you know all about the Tumble feature but if you don’t, it’s something that can help you increase your wins even more. Any symbol involved in a win will disintegrate and be replaced with new symbols for a chance at another winning combination.
As long as a tumble results in another win, the cycle will continue and you’ll see your winnings get bigger and bigger. Like it or not, it’ll all come to an end with a winless tumble but nothing is stopping you from doing it all again on the next spin.
Power Wilds – Wanted Dead or Alive
Like a classic Wanted poster from the Wild West, you’ll land a Power Wilds symbol here and there. They work as a classic Wild but what makes it different is the fact that they all come with a number attached. Varying from 1 to 10, the number will go down by 1 every time it’s involved in a win.
As long as a number is still attached, the Wild will not be replaced as part of the Tumble. In other words it will very much be involved in trying to land another win.
It’s a bit different but does add something to the game. I was hoping they would be a bit more valuable though in order to make the feature a bit more fun.
Buy Your Free Spins
There is a buy option for players lacking the patience needed to wait for the scatters to trigger the Free Spins round. It’ll cost you 100x your bet if you choose to take this route.
Mystery Mice Free Spins
As in most cases it takes 3 scatters to trigger Free Spins and if you do, 8 of them will be yours. Remember the Power Wilds from earlier? They are in play here as well but in contrast to the base game, during Free Spins they will stick around between spins.
Besides being able to retrigger your Free Spins by landing 2 scatters, there’s an additional helper involved during Free Spins. It’s called the Power Up symbol and will ONLY appear in the bonus round.
Whenever the Power Up hits, it will add 1, 2 or 3 to your Wilds count, which is ok I guess.
I can’t say that I was impressed by what takes place in the bonus round, which is always a bit disappointing. This is where the real action should take place and I feel in this case there wasn’t much fun.
The fact that I didn’t win much either doesn’t make me feel any better about it either, obviously.
Mystery Mice – Pass or Play?
Even though the theme is too much on the childish side for my own preference, Mystery Mice looks fantastic and made me think it would be a fun game. Pragmatic Play rarely misses either but unfortunately I feel that Mystery Mice doesn’t deliver a fun enough gaming experience for me to be able to recommend it to players.
It feels weak as far as features goes and I don’t find anything that heightens the thrill of playing or takes the game to another level. I left the game thinking it is lame and didn’t really bring anything to the table other than spectacular graphics.
Unfortunately for you, Pragmatic Play, you leave me with no other choice than to say that Mystery Mice is a pass and you’ll be better off playing another game.
