Do you remember the TV-show Hillbilly Handfishin’ from years ago? It was a show about a couple of fishermen down in Oklahoma and how they caught catfish using nothing but their bare hands (called noodling). Basically you stick your entire arm into a hole and wait for the catfish to take a bite. I know – yuck!
Here’s an idea, how about we stop judging by size only and give the ugly fish a shot at the title sometimes? I think this has a shot at being a real thing and an actual competition.
Ugliest Catch Olympics
Wondering why I’m bringing up this strange but entertaining way of fishing? Well, the reason is simple. Big, swampy catfish are just nasty as hell and there’s even crazier looking creatures roaming our waters, which brings me to Nolimit City’s latest game release – Ugliest Catch!
Released on October 17th, Ugliest Catch is redneck fishing at its finest and the reels will of course spin to the hottest banjo tunes known to man. There is a 50,000x multiplier down there somewhere, so until we are ready for the Ugliest Catch Olympics, let’s see what else is lurking in these waters, shall we?
Extreme Volatility and a Ton of Features
We’re used to water being blue but Nolimit City opted for a greener, murkier version which in this case actually works. You’ll spot the boat sitting above the reels but as far as the fisherman himself goes, he seems to be knocked out for the moment. Whether it’s because of a strong sun or if he’s been sippin’ on grandpa’s old cough medicine is not revealed.
One might think he’d want to be awake though if he wants to catch anything other than a massive hangover.
The fish symbols are as ugly as promised and I’m not sure if it’s a thing but it does scream of inbreed, doesn’t it? Overall, I think the setting is a good fit for the game.

Use the Boosted xBet
Ugliest Catch has a 5×5 reel setup but many of the positions will be locked up in the beginning, leaving you with 5×3. This means those positions are not in play and no symbols are visible. As soon as a scatter lands, it will unlock them for you and give you a bigger shot at landing a win.
By clicking and activating the Boosted xBet button on the right, you can guarantee unlocking the second reel. It will cost you 75% of your initial bet but it will also double your chances of scoring Free Spins.
What Hides Behind the Locked Reels?
When one of the locked Enhancer Cells open there are 4 possibilities in terms of what will appear.
- Fisherman Wild
- Big Berta
- xWays
- A normal symbol
The xWays for example, can only show in these unlocked positions and can give you 2-4 symbols, which is pretty generous.
Fish Trophy and Big Berta
Don’t confuse Big Berta with the classic Callaway driver called Big Bertha but she is still big. What they will bring to the table are multipliers and plenty of them. You can scoop up anywhere from 2x to 5,000x your bet and these wins can be won in the Kill N’ Grill Wild Fishing feature, which just happens to be what I will talk about next.
Welcome to the Kill N’ Grill Wild Fishing Feature
Triggered by the Fisherman Wild symbol, this is where you can score the multiplier I mentioned above.
Buy Your Free Spins
As always with Nolimit City, you will have the option of paying for Free Spins and head straight to the bonus round instead of landing the required amount of scatters. There are 4 different options available:
- 8 Lunker Spins – 6 opened Enhancer Cells for 94x Your Bet
- 9 Hawg Spins – 8 opened Enhancer Cells for 300x Your Bet
- 10 Honey Hole Spins – 10 opened Enhancer Cells for 866x Your Bet
- Random Spins – Get either of the first 3 for 390x Your Bet
During my trial, I decided to splurge for the 8 Lunker Spins but unfortunately I didn’t quite make my money back on my investment. I’ll get it back next time though!
Ugliest Catch – Pass or Play?
Nolimit City is one of my favorite providers and I like a lot of their previous releases. Normally the games are a double threat, in the way of looking great and playing great and the Ugliest Catch is no different.
Is it all that I expected? I have to be honest and say no. The reason why is that I always have high expectations for Nolimit and with a title like Ugliest Catch, I was very excited to see what they had come up with. Without being able to put a finger on it, it does feel like it could be a bit more exciting and contain more action.
I did mention the ugly catfish in the beginning but clearly the title is a play on another great fishing show – Deadliest Catch, even though it’s about crabs.
The only thing you should hope for with Ugliest Catch is big wins. Considering there’s a 50,000x multiplier in the mix and EXTREME VOLATILITY, the odds of hooking some big catches are great. So, it is worth playing? Definitely!
Where to Play Ugliest Catch?
For players who are ready to hit the lake and score BIG WINS, the boats are waiting at BitStarz, Kryptosino and/or Vave Casino.
Go Fish!
