Considering slot themes seem to be extremely limited, it’s not exactly shocking that we find close to identical games from different providers. It’s easy for them to get very close in terms of graphics but we also see games running with the same mechanics.
Megaways or Hold & Win
I wanted to take a look at two slots from different providers that are very similar. You could basically pick any of the games with Megaways or Hold & Win. Having reached out to some game specialists, I was given a couple of examples from where I picked two.
Booming Games and Playson are the two providers behind Rhino Hold & Win and Wolf Power Hold & Win. Clearly the names give away the biggest common denominator being the Hold & Win but how similar are they in terms of experience?
You are about to find out.
Rhino Hold & Win – Booming Games
Oh, the wilderness. I think the majority of providers have at least one game with some sort of animal theme. For some reason, they also love mixing animals from different continents, which I find funny, in this case it’s a Jaguar that has found its way to the African savanna.
Fittingly, wilds play a big part in this game. If you’re lucky to get a few stacked wilds, you’ll definitely be reaping the rewards.
Stacked wilds can only appear on reels 2-5, so no need to be disappointed if you never see any on the first reel. I didn’t need too many wilds to get a nice win so I can only imagine if you fill 4 full reels.
Leave Room for Major Free Spins
Even with rhinos and crocodiles around, Free Spins will mark their territory. Booming Games seems to want to hype up these ones even more than usual, considering they named them Major Free Spins.
Lining up the 3 sunset scatters needed to get to the dance wasn’t in the cards this time around.
Long Live Hold & Win
I have always been a big fan of the Hold & Win feature and if I’m being honest, I prefer it over Free Spins.
I may have missed out on the Free Spins but lucky for me, it didn’t take long to rack up the qualifying 6 coins.
Shiny Rhino Multipliers
During the Hold & Win feature, it’s all about the golden multiplier coins. As always, you’ll get 3 spins to line up as many coins as possible. Every time you land another one, your spin count will reset.
A timely symbol can keep you going for a while, so try to stay alive as long as possible.
Quick Hit Bonuses
You can get your hands on a jackpot if you’re lucky. As a matter of fact there are 3 of them and if you want the Grand Jackpot, or Quick Hit Bonus as they’re called, you need to fill the entire grid with symbols.
- Grand = 1,000x
- Major = 100x
- Mini = 25x
The way to the Major and Mini is through landing the respective symbol on the reels.
Added Up and Paid Out
Sooner or later you will run out of spins. When you do, all the multipliers on your screen will be added up and paid out.
In my case I ended up winning 22 mLTC on a 1 mLTC bet, which was considered a Big Win. I appreciate the beautiful fireworks, so thank you for those Booming Games.
The Rhino Is Approved
Ok, that was a good experience. I was actually a bit hesitant when I first saw the game and if it hadn’t had a Hold & Win, I probably would have moved on right away. Considering the outcome, I was glad I stayed.
Any game with these features would feel like a disappointment if you never got the chance to experience them. I wasn’t even upset about missing out on the Free Spins, which is a good thing.
Not bad, Booming Games.
Wolf Power Hold & Win – Playson
First of all I started doubting the information I was given about the two games being very similar. Then again, my contact did say that they can look different but thanks to the mechanics, these two games are very similar.
I have to agree because looks wise, they are definitely different.
Well, one way these two games are exactly the same is that I couldn’t score Free Spins in either of them. Is that something to celebrate? No, but if we’re looking for similarities, it’s one of them.
Another one is the fact that I did get the chance to experience the bonus game in both places. You only need 6 burning suns but I managed to score as many as 7 plus a power symbol.
Empty Promises?
Looking at the Bonus Game image, you get excited. Scooping up both jackpots and the double win potential sounds good right?
It’s All About the Power
You know how the Hold & Win works now, so no need to explain the 3 spins setup. As more and more symbols started to fill the grid, it was really glowing with the sunset in the background.
The thing that is different here are the power symbols. You can see the jackpots above the reels the more power symbols you land, the marker will move and actually give you a bigger jackpot.
I ended up with 3 howling wolves, which got me the Minor jackpot.
Maybe Next Time
It would have been nice to get another power symbol and jump up to the Major jackpot but maybe next time.
Solid Win
After all the values were added up, I ended up with a pretty solid win. Just like in the Rhino game, I was playing with LTC, but Playson shows the currency in a different way than Booming Games, which is a bit annoying.
Nevertheless, I was happy with the win.
Second Time’s Not the Charm
I actually managed to get back for another shot at the Grand jackpot but this bonus round wasn’t as successful as the first time and my total win was a lot smaller as you can see.
Jackpot Breakdown
Let’s take a quick look at the jackpot sizes available when you collect enough power symbols.
- Grand = 2,000x
- Major = 600x
- Minor = 200x
- Mini = 80x
Bottom Line
To be honest, I’m not sure these two games are all that similar. Even with Free Spins, Hold & Win and jackpots, they do differ. The Wolf Power has a different setup with the power symbols, which I liked.
I don’t know exactly when these two games were released but Rhino is superior when it comes to graphics. This contributed to the overall vibe of Wolf Power being an older game which I definitely noticed.
In the end, I didn’t find the games all that similar. I thought both of them were ok and I was happy getting a shot at the bonus game but neither of them will crack the top 10 of my favorites.
Both games can be found at most casinos, so feel free to swing by King Billy, CasinoInter, BitStarz or Wild Tornado to enjoy the Hold & Win action.
