Get ready for the latest in terms of Halloween slots the online casinos have to offer. Are they too scary for you or just what you need?
All Bets Are Off
It’s funny how laughter and screams go hand in hand during Halloween. It takes a special kind of holiday to make that happen but with people dressing up and the drinks are flowing, all bets are off.
To get you in the right mindset for the weekend, I’ve reviewed 5 of the newest Halloween slot releases.
If you are wondering if they are tricks or treats, I would say it’s a bit of both. Red Tiger, Quickfire, Zillion and Betsoft Gaming are all contributing this year.
Do you dare to miss out on the big wins?
1) Tricks & Treats – Red Tiger
I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone who’s actually implemented a feature that represent the act of Trick or Treats like this game. It’s far from the best game I’ve played and it won’t be a newfound favorite either I’m afraid but there are a couple of things that I want to give Red Tiger credit for.
RTP: 95.73%
Paylines: 25
Multiplier: 1,697x
Volatility: Low/Medium
Treats
To put you in a good mood right away, let’s start off with the treats. You can see the Treat symbol in the image above and whenever you manage to land one of them, you can count on a random instant cash prize.
Don’t expect giant payouts but a treat is always welcome, don’t you agree?
Trick
You can expect the cheeky looking pumpkin to play tricks on you. Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sounds. You won’t see a scary hand reaching into your account balance and reduce it to zero.
The Trick symbol will instead transform into wilds and can also give you a multiplier of up to 3x.
Halloween Spins
Red Tiger really put their creative brains together when they came up with Halloween Spins, right? I’m just kidding obviously.
As long as you can score 3 or more Halloween Spins symbols, you will get 10 spins.
While in the bonus round, all the multipliers you get by any of the Trick symbols will accumulate and will be in play for all remaining spins.
Overall
Tricks or Treats is a bit childish for my liking so it’s not really my type of game. However, like I mentioned earlier I thought it was quite creative with the Trick or Treat symbols.
2) Witch Feature – Quickfire
The Witch Feature slot is up next and just like a magic potion, it’s all about the right combination of ingredients. Finding the right potions is a great distraction and I don’t mind it actually.
RTP: 95.85%
Paylines: 50
Multiplier: 3,000x
Volatility Medium
Am I Going Blind?
Before I continue, I have to bring up the fact that it’s really difficult to even see your account balance, bet size etc at the bottom of the page. You can see for yourself in the screenshot above. Can’t find it? Exactly, that’s how I felt.
Potion Features
On your left you will see 4 different sections, 3 of which have been chained up. There are potion symbols in play and whenever one lands, it will be moved over to the cauldron.
You have to find the right combination of potion symbols in order to trigger the feature. When this is done, the next card will be unlocked and available to you.
- High Symbols Respin – Hit the right combo and get a respin with high-paying symbols, increasing your winning potential.
- Random Wilds Respin – Get a respin with random wilds
- Multiplier Respin – There will be 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x or 10x multipliers
- Mega Wild Respin – Your wilds are 2×2 or 3×3 your respin
Not the Right Combo?
I would say that the majority of times you won’t get the right potion symbols and when you do, instead of triggering the feature, you will instead see a big green question mark.
A random number of question marks will also be placed on the reels and will be replaced with high value symbols, hopefully for a big win.
Free Spins
You only need to land a Free Spin symbol on the first and last reel to trigger 10 Free Spins. It sounds easy but I couldn’t pull it off. I’m sure you’ll do better though.
Overall
As mentioned, I enjoyed the hunt for the right bottles and I think these types of games within the game are fun. It adds a bit of extra excitement on each spin.
That was the main focus and because of that, I wasn’t even thinking about Free Spins. Is that a good or a bad thing, I don’t know, but there are things happening in the game at least and it’s not bad.
3) HalloWin – Zillion
If you are a fan of the old classic Halloween slots, you might want to take a look at HalloWin. It is a new release but there is a definite retro vibe to it, mostly because of the type of graphics they have used.
RTP – 95.00%
Paylines – 50
Max multiplier – 1,380x
Volatility – Medium
Spooky Spins
Fittingly to Halloween, the bonus symbol is a pumpkin. One of the two available bonus rounds is known as Spooky Spins and in order to trigger it you need a minimum of 6 pumpkins to appear on your screen. This will get you 5 Spooky Spins.
During Spooky Spins, each pumpkin will contain either a cash prize, an extra spin or a jackpot.
How to Get to the Jackpot Wheel
Each pumpkin that you land during Spooky Spins matters and will be added to the counter in the top right corner. Make sure to grab as many as you can because if you can get at least 15, you will get a shot at the Jackpot Wheel at the end.
On the wheel, you will find all the jackpots and the only question is – which one will be yours?
Buy Bonus
You have the option of paying for a bonus round and you can actually take your pick between Spooky Spins or Free Spins.
- Spooky Spins – 40x your bet
- Free Spins – 50x your bet
Free Spins
A cauldron with a boiling green liquid is a common sight during the holidays and this time it also works as the scatter. If you can get at least 3 of them, the doors to the bonus round will be wide open for you.
Not only can you re-trigger Free Spins and get more, you can also trigger Spooky Spins and get even more out of your bonus rounds. I wasn’t even aware of it so I was surprised when the Spooky Spins came along.
Overall
My first impression of Hallowin wasn’t all that great based on looks only. It reminded me of Spin and Spell in terms of style.
As I started playing however, I got into it pretty quickly and when both Free Spins and Spooky wins came along quite fast, I of course felt good about the game itself.
Making it to the bonus round on a €0.50 bet and ending up with a €102.50 total win from it will do that to you.
Try it!
4) Rags to Witches – BetSoft Gaming
From Rags to Witches is a clever play on words and it turned out to be true in my case because I didn’t see any riches at all. This is despite the fact that there are as many as 4 progressive jackpots in play. Then again, it’s most likely because of a very high volatility.
RTP – 96.21%
Paylines – 30
Max multiplier – 3,356x
Volatility – Very High
Four Scatters is Not Enough
Just like many other games, Rags to Witches is purely a race for the bonus round. I’ve never felt so close to getting Free Spins on every single spin because there are always scatters showing up.
However, even if it felt like I could hit enough scatters, the longer it took, the further away I felt. The reason being, which I didn’t look up before I played, is that 3 scatters isn’t enough. Actually, 4 scatters isn’t enough either as you need as many as 5(!) scatters to get the ticket.
This is a bit too much I feel and I don’t know how many times I scored 3 or 4 scatters, which would’ve been enough in 98% of the games, just not here.
Progressive Jackpot
The big attraction here is of course the big progressive jackpot and no, you can’t win it via Free Spins.
As a matter of fact, it’s actually triggered completely at random. This does make it interesting. Your chances of triggering it also increases with the size of your bet.
If and when you manage to do the impossible, you will get one spin of the progressive reel. This is where you can scoop up the Mini, Minor, Major or Mega Jackpot!
Overall
Fine, considering there are big jackpots on the line, I guess I can understand the difficulty but even with a very high volatility, it felt almost impossible to win.
That together with the need for 5 scatters to get Free Spins, I was honestly a bit disappointed. The game looks really good and plays well but I seriously doubt I will come back for another row of winless spins.
5) Muertos Multiplier Megaways – Pragmatic Play
A trip to Mexico is always fun, especially this time of year. Muertos Multiplier Megaways is a good looking game with both multipliers and Free Spins. Is it enough to make it a success? I’m not so sure about that.
RTP: 96.03%
Paylines: Up to 117,649 Megaways
Multiplier: 10,000x
Volatility: High
Megaways with all its win possibilities never really pays as much as you think. At least that’s how I feel. You see this big grid but it’s still tough to find the right winning combos and this game also has high volatility.
Buy Free Spins
You can quickly head to the bonus round whenever you feel like it, thanks to the Buy button on the left. The price of admission is 100x your bet so it’s up to you.
After you’ve paid the fee, you will randomly get 3-6 bonus symbols.
Free Spins
I never made it to the Free Spins unfortunately but the key word here seems to be “random”.
Before you can start your round, the number of spins you’ll get has to be decided and is not as straightforward as it normally is.
Just take a look at this:
- 3x Bonus symbols will randomly get you 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 or 14 Free Spins.
- 4x Bonus symbols will randomly get you 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 or 14 Free Spins.
- 5x Bonus symbols will randomly get you 7, 8, 10, 12 or 14 Free Spins.
- 6x Bonus symbols will randomly get you 8, 10, 12 or 14 Free Spins.
Do You Want More?
If you manage to max out the “randomness” and get the maximum 14 Free Spins, there is a little twist you can benefit from.
Only if you get 14 can you decide to gamble and get more spins. If you choose to gamble, you get to spin the wheel. If it stops on a win, you will get an extra Free Spin and you can go again if you want.
Should you lose, you will instead lose ALL your Free Spins.
It seems really risky to me and I doubt I would risk 14 spins for an extra couple of spins.
Overall
I had high hopes going into it but it kind of faded out quite early as I didn’t really see any wins come in. Visually it’s stimulating and fun symbols, especially the cactus.
However, Pragmatic Play is a world class provider and one of my favorites but this game probably isn’t their best.
Time to Be a Winner
Well, I hope these slots can set you up the right way for the weekend and bring in some scary big wins. It’s always interesting to see which providers go extra hard for Halloween and which ones barely lift a finger.
I think these games are all fine and after all, as long as the theme is the right one, that’s all we can ask for.
You can find the games at Wild Tornado, Fortune Jack and BitStarz among other places.
