South Africa’s first Cryptocurrency Investment Conference was held on 4 August 2021. Hosted by Alternatives Marketplace, the event brought together the leading voices on cryptocurrency and cryptocurrency investments for individuals, institutional investors, financial advisors and corporations, with hundreds in attendance.
The country has, over the recent years, experienced a crypto boom, with cryptocurrency investment laws and trade being embraced nationwide. Based on the current crypto climate, capital market and financial regulators forecast an upward trend of crypto activity in South Africa.
One of the companies pioneering cryptocurrency investment in South Africa is Jaltech Digital Investments, an alternative investment fund manager with over 1.6 billion ZAR under management across 1000+ retail investments, who are also the main sponsor of the event, and the powerhouse behind Bitcoin arbitrage opportunities for local investors.
On the topic of the country’s first Cryptocurrency Investment Conference, Jonty Sacks, partner at Jaltech Digital Investments says:
“The cryptocurrency market has seen exponential growth in South Africa over the past few years, with many investors and financial advisors simply not having access to legitimate and credible cryptocurrency investment opportunities. We believe that the Alt Marketplace Conference will provide cryptocurrency investors with access to the latest information and investment options for the South African market.”

The Cryptocurrency Investment Conference worked to provide the local market with insights into the phenomenon of digital currencies from international and local industry experts, and to introduce potential investors to credible cryptocurrency investment opportunities and the technology behind these.
The line-up of speakers included South Africa’s lead for ConsenSys Monica Singer, Jaltech’s co-founder Gaurav Nair, director of banking and finance at ENSafrica Angela Itzikowitz, amongst others.
The event extended its focus beyond cryptocurrency investments and also included presentations by globally recognised cryptocurrency experts on the latest regulatory and tax developments relating to cryptocurrency, what blockchain is and how it will be changing the way we do business, the role of NFTs in the financial markets, as well as how cryptocurrency is the natural evolution of money.
A highlight of the event was a debate on the biggest dilemma associated with cryptocurrency investments – “Should we be investing in cryptocurrencies, or not?”
Participating in the debate was one of South Africa’s leading figures in the financial market – David Shapiro of Sasfin Wealth and on the other side of the debate was globally recognised cryptocurrency expert and TV host Ran Neu Ner.
Weighing in on the conversation and bringing a wealth of knowledge to the table from working at two top cryptocurrency exchange companies was Brenton Naicker, Business Development Manager of Binance Africa, and Marius Reitz, General Manager of Luno Africa.
The rise of crypto in South Africa has presented several lucrative opportunities to both individuals and businesses. It is becoming ever more credible for South Africans to invest in digital currencies with the security and assistance of reputable, regulated, and professional companies handling crypto affairs, like Jaltech Digital Investments.
