There’s no party like a Diddy party, is what people used to say. Well, it’s becoming more and more evident that it is in fact a true statement. It’s also looking more and more like where he’s going, he can expect a different kind of party. I’m struggling to see how he’ll fit the 1,000 bottles of baby oil in his cell though but that’s a topic for another day.
Welcome to San Quentin, Mr Combs
We’ll have to wait and see where Mr Combs will end up but when it comes to notorious US prisons, few of them have a tough as nails reputation like San Quentin. When Nolimit City first opened up the gates and let players roam free in San Quentin xWays in 2021, it became an immediate hit. I was a fan myself which is why I was excited to see a sequel being released just a couple of days ago.
The latest version is called San Quentin 2 Death Row and I hope it’s a riot. Excuse the pun but it had to be done.
Insane Volatility & 200.000x Multiplier
What I’ve always liked with Nolimit’s games is the fact that they always go all in with Extreme Volatility. Now check this out…besides promising features like Green Mile Spins, Nolimit Boosters and Jumping Wild, they are taking things even further this time. Are you ready for INSANE Volatility? Oh, and don’t forget a 200,000x multiplier!
Let’s get on the correctional bus to San Quentin and serve some time! Don’t worry, you’ll be free to go once the review is done.
Don’t Drop the Soap
Nolimit always delivers when it comes to graphics and there are a lot of details to take in if you have some time. First of all on the back of the correctional bus entering the prison. You can see the advertisement in the screenshot above. It doesn’t necessarily serve a purpose but it’s a fun addition and perhaps even a nod to Better Call Saul.
Another thing are the cameras, which you can see moving around. The sound effects and soundtrack are authentic and you can tell they’ve put in some time (yes, another pun) to make the game look and feel legit.
A Lineup of Cell Mates
Looking at the lineup of your new friends will give you an idea of what to expect to see on the 4-4-4-4-4 prison reel setup. Don’t even try to tell me that the guy in the middle is not supposed to be Danny Trejo? With names like Crazy Joe, Biker Bill, Loco Luis, Heinrich the 3rd, it’s not the kind of guys you’ll be inviting over for Thanksgiving.
In terms of other symbols, the one that made me laugh was the pink soap. Classic prison joke!
Released: September 2024 | RTP: 96.13% | Variance: Insane |
Min Bet: €0.20 | Max Bet: €100.00 | Max Payout: 200,000x |
Enhancer Cells Are There to Help
Ok, now that we’ve been strip searched and dressed in the classic orange jumpsuit, it’s time to explore the various features inside the walls. We’ll kick things off with Enhancer Cells.
You’ll spot an extra row at the top and bottom of each reel. These are known as Enhancer Cells. With each spin, they might show 1 of 4 symbols:
- A high paying symbol
- Wild
- Razor Split
- xWays
Slice ‘Em Up
Landing a Razor Split will slice things open and split the symbols into doubles. There are Bonus symbols in play and if one of them gets split, they’ll first turn into Wilds and then be split. The xWays symbol on the other hand will show as many as 5 symbols but you’ll get 10 Wilds if you manage to trigger both Enhancer Cells.
Bonus Turns Wild
You can expect a Bonus symbol here and there and they can appear on any of the reels. If you can land 1 or 2 of them, they will not only turn into Wilds but they’ll also open up the Enhancer Cell for you.
Speaking of Bonus symbols. In order to trigger Green Mile Spins, you’ll need 3 of them.
How to Play Green Mile Spins
I didn’t expect Nolimit to pay homage to the great movie Green Mile but it looks like they have. As I just mentioned, 3 or more Bonus symbols is the key to trigger these spins.
Jumping Wilds Opens Up Enhanced Cells
Depending on how many Bonus symbols you landed, your Green Mile Spins will come with 1-3 Jumping Wilds. These guys will jump to a random position with each spin. If it ends up in a Razor Split Enhancer position, your multiplier will double.
Keep in mind, the number of Jumping Wilds you have will determine how many reels will have an active Enhanced Cell.
You Have a Choice to Make
Normally scary dudes like this won’t give you a choice about anything but before this guy will allow you to start spinning, you’ll have a choice to make.
- Option A – Click on the red button for a shot at 1 extra Jumping Wild. You should know that you risk losing 5 of your 8 Green Miles Spin.
- Option B – Click on the green button and stick to the Spins and Jumping Wilds you were originally awarded.
Normally I don’t mind taking risks but it felt like the right choice to stick with the 8 spins this time. Perhaps it’s the environment that made me want to take less chances.
Anything goes when you’re in Free Spin mode and while the base game is played on the back of the bus, Free Spins take place on the back of an orange jumpsuit. You can see that the xWays are in action and with the Enhanced Cells wide open, you can pick up some nice wins.
I also want to mention the fact that when I hit two Bonus symbols during Free Spins, I was awarded 3 additional spins.
200,000x Max Win
I wasn’t able to score the mindblowing 200,000x max win but whenever you hit a substantial win, your new best friends will show you their support. I think it’s fun to see them pop up and how they look, so I felt like I should share some of the images.
- Biker Bill – Is this Breaking Bad’s Walter White on Steroids?
- Loco Luis – I hope Danny Trejo got paid for this image
- Heinrich the 3rd – The fact that this guy is higher on the list than the previous three means he is crazier than he looks
Buy Boosters and Free Spins
Nolimit is always generous with letting you buy Free Spins and other things. You have the option of buying Green Mile Spins including Jumping Wilds at a minimum price of 100x.
I think the Boosters are a better option because they are cheaper and can lead to Free Spins. I tried both for 1 and 2 Bonus symbols and the latter resulted in the bonus round within 5 spins.
The prices are 2x and 45x respectively.
San Quentin 2 Death Row – Pass or Play? ✅
I wasn’t surprised by Nolimit City dropping another great slot. You don’t get to see prison themed games a lot and with the success of the original game, it was only a matter of time before we saw a sequel.
There are quite a few features in play here and even though I can’t say I love all of them, they work well together as a whole.
Graphics are great, the characters are realistic and there’s a bonus game that can make you a lot of money. That’s basically all a great slot needs and with the potential of striking down on a 200,000x payout…I’m in!
If you enjoy other Nolimit City slots, you’ll have a great time at being on Death Row at San Quentin.
Who knows, perhaps we’ll see Diddy as one of the characters in San Quentin 3 – Diddy Freak Offs!
