Do you believe in magic? It’s hard to answer yes to that question even if there are plenty of things in life that are unexplainable and make magic seem real. Speaking of magic. It is said that the first magician to pull a rabbit out of a hat was Louis Comte, as early as 1814, though the trick is also attributed to the much later John Henry Anderson.
Sippin’ Mojitos in the Caribbean
Not only is Rabbit in the Hat a classic trick used by magicians, it’s also a slot that came out back in 2015. The people behind it must have made a ton of money from it and perhaps even spent some years sippin’ Mojitos in the Caribbean. Why? Because it has taken until now to release a sequel.
All Smoke and Mirrors?
That’s right, the magician and his assistant are back for more but can Rabbit in the Hat 2 beat the odds and become a success? Will players line up to get tickets to the show or will it feel like being sawed in half? There are questions that need to be answered and I’m about to find out.
Let the show begin!
What Happened?
I admit that I had high hopes for the way this game should look, which is why I was disappointed when it was time to play. What happened? I was expecting a new fancy show but come on man, this looks like an old tired show from the 90’s.
Just to give you a couple of examples:
- The font used on the jackpots
- What decade is the blond assistant from
I’ve said it over and over again how important I believe the graphics are so when a brand new game looks like this… come on, man!

Take Advantage of the Hat Feature
As you play, you will notice how the magician uses his wand to place different hats on top of the reels. Known as the Hat Feature, the hats will move one step to the left for every spin. When you land a Wild symbol on the reel below a hat, that’s when you win the prize that the hat brings.
Try and make the most of them before they slide off to the left.
The Magic 5
In terms of the hats, there are 5 different types that you may come across and they all have different powers attached.
- Collection Prize Hat – The hat with the gold medal is in charge of the letters needed to trigger the Mini or Minor Jackpots during the base game. When you’re in Free Spin mode, it’s in charge of all Jackpots.
- Wild Multiplier Hat – With this hat you can get Multipliers up to 5x
- Wild Reel Hat – Watch out for a Wild reel
- Walking Wild Reel Hat – You’ll see a Wild Reel that will take one step to the left per spin
Collection Prize Feature
I mentioned how the Collection Prize Hat will bring you letters. When you collect all letters in a Jackpot, you can get paid. As far as the Jackpots go, here’s what they are worth:
- Grand Jackpot – 2,500x
- Major Jackpot – 250x
- Minor Jackpot – 50x
- Mini Jackpot – 15x
Looking at the image above, this is what a Major Spin looks like. The Major or Grand Spin can randomly be triggered at any given time. If you are successful in spelling out the word on the screen, the money is yours.
While I was testing the game, I was given the opportunity as many as 3 times but unfortunately I was never able to cash in on it.
Use the Bonus Buy
Quickfire was kind enough to include a Bonus Buy feature, giving you the opportunity to pay for Free Spins. There’s a star sitting on top of the spin button and if you click on it you will see what’s in the image above.
Set your bet level and it will give you a price. No matter what your bet size is, the price for Free Spins is 50x, which isn’t too bad.
Wheel of Fortune
When you’ve taken them up on the 50x Free Spin offer, you’ll be put in front of a wheel. The possibilities are the same as in the hats.
My spin landed on Walking Wilds but I still wasn’t sure what the next step was, as I thought I would be playing my Free Spins by now.
Time to Make a Decision in the Upsizer Feature
This one surprised me but I think it’s a pretty cool feature by Quickfire. After I had paid the €10 for Free Spins and spun the wheel, I was now faced with an option.
As you see in the image, my two options were:
- Collect €10.75 and go back to the base game
- Play Free Spins with Walking Wild Reels
I Was Wrong
Or that’s what I thought at least. However, I’m man enough to admit when I am wrong and the Upsizer will give you another option. Instead of paying out money and sending you back to the base game, it gives you the option of paying for a better modifier.
In other words, I could pay €10.75 and get the Collection Prize feature added to my Free Spins. In the end, I opted for the Walking Wild Reels that I felt like I had earned and I wasn’t very interested in coughing up even more money.
How to Play Your Free Spins
For players who don’t go the Bonus Buy route, you can get Free Spins if you land 3 or more Scatters. I wasn’t sure what the magician had in store during Free Spins but I have to say, he was pretty generous.
Every spin will get you another hat above the reels, so basically you play with one for each reel.
My Free Spins Did Not Deliver
I know you think I won big because of this image but truth be told I didn’t. Remember how I paid €10 for the Free Spins? Well, I believe I ended up winning a total of €9.60, meaning I didn’t even get my money back. Oh well, it happens but obviously not what I was hoping for.
Get a Second Chance Courtesy of the Bonus Recharge
Here’s something different that you don’t see often. The feature is called the Bonus Recharge and will pop up at the end of your Free Spins round. It will give you the option of buying 1 extra spin at a certain price.
I wasn’t feeling it and said no but I do think it’s a good option, especially if you’re on a hot streak!
Rabbit in the Hat 2 – Pass or Play?
I have to say Rabbit in the Hat 2 is a bit tricky. My first impression was mainly based on the graphics which is a real let down. I thought the same about the game play, at least at first.
On the other hand, there are a couple of cool features that most games don’t have. I’m specifically referring to the Bonus Recharge as well as the Upsizer.
Were these features enough to sell the game? Hmm, that’s a tough question. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever play the game again. It’s just not exciting enough for my taste. With that said, I do believe that there are players that will really enjoy it.
So, on the question whether Rabbit in the Hat 2 is pass or play? It’s a no (pass) for me but I think it could be a yes (play) for many of you. Clear as mud, haha!
