Ladies and gentlemen, the sports picks hiatus is finally over and I’m back for more speculations about the magical world of sports and betting. 2024 is off to a hot start and the league that’s getting the most attention at the moment is of course the NFL.
With no more than 3 weeks left until this year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas, the stakes are higher than ever and the opportunities for betting are great.
But as always, there’s a lot more action taking place. For example we’ve got UFC 297 coming up this weekend, NHL action at its finest and then there’s the Australian Open that’s in play as we speak.
Let’s take a look at some of the best sports betting opportunities of the week!
1) NFL Playoffs Divisional Rounds
Last week we saw two major upsets when both the Philadelphia Eagles AND the Dallas Cowboys failed to get ready for playoff football. While the Texans put a whoopin´ on the Browns, the Lions, Bills and the Chiefs all got the job done.
Every round is tougher than the next and we’ve now reached the Divisional Rounds and we have some great games to look forward to this weekend.
You Have Been Warned
I’m going to go with the safe bets here although I do want to give a warning for the Packers. Yes, they are facing the very dominating 49ers in San Francisco but they are on a mojo overload after giving the Cowboys a good ‘ol spanking last week.
I also think that Mahomes and Kelce can pull off a win in the snow against a very tough Buffalo Bills.
Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans
🏈 My Pick – Ravens 🏈
Odds: 1.23
San Francisco 49ers vs Green Bay Packers
🏈 My Pick – 49ers 🏈
Odds: 1.23
Detroit Lions vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
🏈 My Pick – Lions 🏈
Odds: 1.35
Buffalo Bills vs Kansas City Chiefs
🏈 My Pick – Chiefs 🏈
Odds: 2.30
Total Payout – €94
After checking a variety of sportsbooks, it seems like Stake has the best odds for the NFL. Drop €20 on the above 4-game parlay at 4.70x in odds and win €94.
2) UFC 297 – Saturday, January 20
The UFC is coming back to Toronto this weekend and the headliner is of course Sean Strickland vs Dricus Du Plessis. Who would’ve ever thought we would see these two in a title fight? The Middleweight World Championship is on the line and it’s going to be one heck of a fight, or at least that’s the prediction.
Strickland stunned the world, including himself, when he took the belt from Israel Adesanya in September and now he’ll have to defend it against Du Plessis. The interest around the fight was quite low initially but the temperature was turned up a bit after their fist fight at UFC 296.
Only Alex Pereira Got the Job Done
Sean Strickland is one of the more elusive and methodical strikers in all of MMA, and he has a tremendous takedown defense. In fact, in the last five years, the only fighter that has been able to really find his chin is Alex Pereira and we all know what he can do.
Strickland Is the Odds Favorite
The odds give a slight favor to Strickland but it’s basically a coin toss because anything can happen. In terms of betting, don’t expect to win big with either of the fighters. But, the fight is still intriguing and it adds a ton to the excitement of watching it.
Can Strickland Get Another One?
It’s a very tough choice and I feel weird for saying this but even though he’s not the type of guy you necessarily like to see as a UFC champion, there’s some appeal in seeing Strickland win another one. For all GTA players out there, Strickland is literally the live version of the white trash character Trevor.
Having the coolest name in the UFC won’t help Dricus Du Plessis on Saturday night!
Strickland vs Du Plessis – Winner
🥊 My Pick – Strickland 🥊
Odds: 1.85
Strickland vs Du Plessis – Going the Distance?
🥊 My Pick – Yes 🥊
Odds: 3.00
Total Payout – €111
I looked around and you will find the best odds for Strickland at Stake. Drop €20 on these two bets at 5.55x in odds and win €111.
3) NHL
The world’s greatest sport is ice hockey and the world’s greatest league is the NHL. Ankle breaking dangles, earth shattering body checks and super skilled players lighting the lamp as they score beautiful goals is an everyday occurrence in this league. If you haven’t started to watch the game yet, you are seriously missing out and it’s time to get your s**t together.
I’ve picked out 4 games for tonight that I find interesting and worthy of a bet.
Calgary Flames vs Toronto Maple Leafs
🏒 My Pick – Maple Leafs 🏒
Odds: 2.16
Edmonton Oilers vs Seattle Kraken
🏒 My Pick – Oilers 🏒

For this week’s NHL action, I opted for Sportsbet.io. If you drop €20 on my parlay at 28.69x in odds, you can win as much as €574. That’s worth a shot, right?
