When we see a live casino game coming from Evolution, there are always a few things we can already check off our checklists. We know the game will have an interesting theme, we know the game will have excellent graphics, and we know the game will give us a fully immersive experience. That is all present in Gonzo’s Treasure Map.
When Evolution sets out to create a game, they generally pull out all the stops to give us that immersive gameplay feeling. The setting for Gonzo’s Treasure Map is an ancient temple deep in the heart of the jungle. Our host is a fellow explorer donning their adventure gear, with Gonzo serving as their sidekick on the left side of the screen. In the background, you can see the clouds drifting by, the birds flying, and the sun setting. This game has a look that will definitely appeal to new players and old fans of the original Gonzo series.
How to Play Gonzo’s Treasure Map
Also, like most of Evolution’s casino game shows, the play of the game is simple. The host will lay out Gonzo’s treasure map on the grid (or reels) of the game board. Your objective is to correctly guess where the treasure will be. You can place your wager on any place on the map. Players can even choose to place a wager on every tile if they wish. But I wouldn’t recommend it, as you will most definitely come out with a net loss with this tactic.
Once all the wagers have been placed, Gonzo’s map will then dissolve, and three Bonus symbols will be revealed. Then, at random, five blocks will fall down the game board onto the tiles. There are two types of blocks to fall: a Gold Block (10x multiplier) and a Multiplier Block (20x multiplier). If one of the falling tiles lands on the spot where you placed your wager, you will have found Gonzo’s treasure and win a payout. Should one of the tiles land on a Bonus symbol on the board, the bonus round will be triggered. However, you will have to have placed a wager on that space to be able to participate in the bonus round.
Gonzo’s Treasure Map Bonus Game
In the bonus game, every tile will have a random multiplier applied to it. These multipliers can be as high as 500x your wager. Then, a single red block will fall at random on the grid. Wherever that block lands will be the multiplier you receive for your payout. There are also x2 spaces on the board. Should the red block land on one of those spaces, all multiplier bonuses will be doubled on the grid. This can happen multiple times, which can increase the amounts of the multipliers greatly.
Paytable
PRIZE DROP LANDING BLOCK | PAYOUT |
Gold Block | 9:1 |
Multiplier Block | 19:1 |
Bonus Round | Up to €500,000 |
The maximum win you can achieve playing Gonzo’s Treasure Map is up to €500,000 in total. The RTP of the game is set at 95.26%, which is average for most casino games.
What’s New With Gonzo’s Treasure Map?
As I stated before, Gonzo’s Treasure Map is a rebranding of another Evolution game, Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt. So, what changed? Honestly, not a lot. In fact, there are so many similarities between the two that many players might not realize they are even playing a different game.
What’s the same?
First of all, the setting and theme of the new game are practically identical to the original. We are still in an ancient temple or pyramid. The host is dressed in an explorer outfit. Gonzo is still the animated sidekick.
What’s changed?
The biggest change is primarily how the game is played. Previously, in Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt, there were multiple colored stones placed on the main board. Each color represented a different multiplier ranging from 1x up to 65x your wager. You would place your wager on the various colored tiles. Then, blocks would drop from the top and fall at random on the grid. If a block landed on the tile color you placed a wager on, you would win. So, essentially, Gonzo’s Treasure Map is the gameplay of Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt but in reverse.
Did you know?
Gonzo is based on the historical figure Gonzalo Pizarro. He was a Spanish conquistador who participated in the conquest of the Inca Empire.
My Verdict: Pass or Play Gonzo’s Treasure Map: Pass! ❌
Okay, so hear me out. If you were a fan of the original, you MIGHT like this new version of the game. However, it appears that number would be very small, or otherwise, why would Evolution feel the need to remake this game?
My biggest issue with Gonzo’s Treasure Map is that it is boring to play. You place your wager(s), you watch the tile fall, and that’s pretty much it. The tedium is furthered by the very slow pace at which each round is played.
Also, there’s only one bonus round, and it is basically the same gameplay as the base game. Other live casino game shows, like Sweet Bonanza Candyland, have multiple different bonus rounds to keep the game exciting and fresh for players.
My biggest question here to Evolution is, “Why?” Why did you feel the need to bring this to us? O, if you wanted to rehash the Gonzo concept, why would you not bring us something better than this? Ultimately, Gonzo’s Treasure Map is a hard pass for me.
Pros and Cons of Gonzo’s Treasure Map
