It’s not often we see a provider strapping on the Converse to attempt to pull off a cool kickflip or an ollie. I don’t know about you but I’ve never been able to perform tricks like that. Few have been able to perform them as well as the legendary Tony Hawk and when it comes to the business of skateboarding, he’s had an even bigger impact. He had a great professional career but his biggest success came via his video games.
The first version of “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater” came out in 1999 and has sold for more than $1 billion but before that, the biggest skater game was “Skate or Die”. Guess what? It’s now here as a new slot.
Time to Skate or Die
Let me be clear, it’s obviously not the original game but the slot does share the name. The provider trying to bring it back and show us something different, for which I applaud the initiative, is of course Nolimit City. Are they able to bring authentic street vibes and let us reconnect with bleeding knees, broken bones and of course the epic slang?
I hope you’re as curious as I am so grab your board and let’s see what’s happening in the brand new Skate or Die slot. Fingers crossed the graphics are better than the original 1987 computer game.
Don’t Worry Be Happy
Aaawww, look at that good old smiley face greeting you. Now that’s a classic and it’s a nice first impression for players. I think Nolimit is doing a good job of bringing the street vibe with the ramp as well as the characters.
Symbols like the broken fingers, cracked elbow and a bruised shin are all classic and a perfect fit for the game. It hurts just looking at them so putting the wheelchair in the background is a nice, fun touch as well.
I had hoped for a different look than what we are used to seeing from all other slots and I believe Skate or Die delivers just that. Also, the max payout is a pretty nice 30,000x.
Another thing worth paying attention to are the voice overs. They are really pushing the theme, which is cool.
Next stop – features.

Extra Sauce Row
Sitting above the reels is something called the Extra Sauce Row. I’m not sure about the reason behind the name, but ok. This row consists of 5 potential multipliers from 2x up to 10x.
If these multipliers connect with the right symbols below, namely the xNudge and/or xZone, it will benefit you.
Connect the Extra Sauce Row With These Symbols
Like I just mentioned, you want to connect the symbols on the Sauce Row with the right ones below. The symbols you should be looking for are:
- xZone Wild
When this guy lands in the reel below a multiplier, it will be applied in all directions.
- xNudge Wild
When a xNudge Wild shows up, it will always nudge to fully visible. Each nudge will also give your multiplier a +1 boost.
- xNudge Wild Supreme
This one is a little bit different but you should know it’s only in play during Boneyard Spins Bonus Game. I will cover this a bit later. When this guy is triggered, it will add up ALL available multipliers from the Extra Sauce Row.
Multiple Variations of Free Spins
Skate or Die has 3 different types of Free Spins and you need at least 3 scatters to trigger them. Which type you’ll get to play depends on how many scatters you’re able to land.
- 3 Scatters = 10 Face Plant Spins
- 4 Scatters = 10 Dead Meat Spins
- 5 Scatters = 10 Boneyard Spins
So what are the different Free Spins?
- Face Plant Spins – A guaranteed xZone Wild on every spin
- Dead Meat Spins – Two guaranteed xZone Wilds on every spin
- Boneyard Spins – Two guaranteed xZone Wilds on every spin (includes xNudge Wild Supreme)
Grab a Booster
To increase your chances of winning, you can take advantage of the Nolimit Boosters.
- xBet – You can make sure to get a scatter for an extra 10%
- xNudge – If you want to secure a xNudge Wild, it can be yours for 10x your bet
Master the Crasher Game
There’s a Bonus Game known as the Crasher Game, which is only available in the base game. If the symbol you see above lands fully stacked, you will be awarded a 30x win plus the option to let it ride in the Crasher Game.
You have a shot at winning anywhere from 31x to 30,000x in this feature. You will be sent off a cliff in a wheelchair, crazy I know, and your job is to press STOP before you hit the ground.
Should you let it go all the way to the ground, you can either win the maximum 30,000x OR lose it all. It depends on if you land in a dumpster or in a grave.
Even though it’s a bit morbid, it’s a fun extra feature. I made it to the Crasher Game once and wasn’t sure what to expect but I clicked STOP after a while and managed to score a 290x win. It’s not even close to 30,000x obviously but still.
Nolimit Bonus Options
With any Nolimit slot, you’ll always have the option of paying for features. In Skate or Die, here’s what’s available:
- Crasher Game – Costs 30x Your Bet
- Face Plant Spins – Costs 60x Your Bet
- Dead Meat Spins – Costs 200x Your Bet
- Boneyard Spins – Costs 1,000x Your Bet
- Lucky Draw – Costs 210x Your Bet
Skate or Die – Pass or Play?
Even if I’ve never been a skater, I was glad to see a new slot theme and Nolimit deserves credit for trying something new. I’m sure there are a ton of skaters out there that will enjoy playing Skate or Die and reminisce about the good old days.
The graphics are definitely street enough and the voice overs and comments are perfect for a game like this. There are also a good amount of features in play and some of them are different from what I’ve seen before which is great. I mean, who thinks about sending a guy in a wheelchair off a cliff?
I didn’t have a successful run while playing and it took me quite a while before I finally managed to trigger some Face Plant Spins.
Overall, this is a fun game, especially if you have any kind of skating experience from growing up. I think players will find their way to Skate or Die and will be happy with it.
It’s a fun time and playing slots should be fun. SO, give Skate or Die a go and feel like a kid again.
