Underwater photography is an art and a tricky one at that. Asking your objects to hold still and to say cheese, just doesn’t cut it in the spectacular world that only exists beneath the surface. The good news is that whether you are capable of snapping cool photos or not, you can still be looking at a nice payout in Fishtastic by Red Tiger Gaming.
Take the Plunge
It always looks so peaceful when scuba divers do their best to blend in among fish and sometimes very interesting looking creatures. I have yet to get a license of my own but it’s on the list and who knows, maybe this game review will be the thing that gets me off the couch and into the deep blue.
Not Quite Up to Par
The opening scene of the game is flawless but it does lose a bit of its magic once the reels are settled in position. As you can see above, it’s quite plain and not very exciting. The line of photos sitting above and the empty spot on the left do help once they’re in play, but more on that later.
You will come across both starfish and tiger fish among some other colorful characters.
I fully approve of the name but let’s just say graphics wise, Fisthastic is not what I had hoped for.
Released: March 2024 | RTP: 95.65% | Variance: Medium |

Shoot Your Shot as the Diver
Earlier I mentioned the empty space to the left of the reels and this is where the diver can show up at times. When she does and there are fish on the reels, the diver will put the camera to use and snap a picture of all of them.
You will see frames appear around the fish, followed by all of their cash values being collected by the diver.
Bring Out the Golden Diver for More Cash
There’s another diver in the waters, wearing golden scuba gear and wetsuit. When he’s the one taking the photos, he will also give you a 3x multiplier. Make the most of it and with a bit of luck you’ll land a bunch of fish symbols and really rake in the cash.
Get Your Free Spins
It takes 3 or more Free Spin scatters in order for you to trigger Free Spins. I managed to land 4 of them at the same time but unfortunately there’s a standard 5 Free Spins given no matter how many you land. Normally you’d get extra when you land more than 3 scatters but not in this case.
You’ll be happy to know that while you’re in Free Spin mode, you’ll get a visit from either the Diver or the Golden Diver on every spin.
Bring on the Next Fish
Before you get to spin, the next type of fish on the photos above is unlocked and can now appear on the reels. The challenge is to unlock ALL fish which will allow you to play for the Bonus the next time you trigger Free Spins.
Win a Bonus
It feels like it’s going to take a long time before you manage to unlock all of the fish, but clearly it can be done. I wasn’t even close though but that doesn’t mean you can’t pull it off.
Once it’s done, the fish progress bar above the reels will then be replaced by 3 multiplier prizes. In order to scoop up one of them, you’ll need 4 or more scatters.
As far as the Bonus prizes go, this is what you will be playing for.
- 4 Free Spins Scatters – 50x
- 5 Free Spins Scatters – 250x
- 6 Free Spins Scatters – 1,000x
- 7+ Free Spins Scatters – 5,000x
Fishtastic – Pay or Play?
There are a lot of fish slots out there for some reason, some better than others of course. I believe Fishtastic ends up somewhere in the middle on that list. While I can’t say it’s overly exciting, especially the base game, there are some features that make it a better game.
I did enjoy the diver coming in to take photos for cash rewards from time to time, especially the Golden Diver and his 3x multiplier of course. Having them involved in every spin during Free Spins is definitely an added bonus.
It took me a lot of spins before I could trigger any Free Spins and if it wasn’t research for this review, I would have moved on to another game much faster. Luckily I was able to get a taste of it later at least but still.
You should know that there is a Feature Buy available, although I never used it this time around. This will give you the choice of the Diver, Golden Diver or Free Spins and the price is somewhere between 10x and 65x, which isn’t too bad I guess.
Will I come back to Fishtastic and give it another go? My answer is no. I don’t think it provided enough action for my taste but I can see other players enjoying the game a lot more than I did.
