Spending endless amounts of beautiful summer days in the garden brings back so many happy memories from childhood. Playing ball, running around barefoot on the grass and all the trees and flowers that were blooming to show off their best self is all part of the experience and I’m forever grateful for it.
Something that added even more life to the garden was of course the bugs and insects. You’d have the classic ones like butterflies, ladybugs, wasps, snails and beetles. Then there were the less fun ones like earwigs, spiders and perhaps the most hated one of all – mosquitos!

No matter the level of their individual popularity, they are all part of the garden wildlife and therefore also the experience and memories. On top of that, they have now made it onto the reels in the latest release from ELK Studios – Buggin!

Great Graphics and Quirky, Lovable Characters
The ELK bugs are opening the gates to an idyllic garden and I have to say, the setting is very inviting. At first I thought it was a pool but clearly it’s some type of small pond with water lilies.
I am a fan of big grids and this one is 7×7, which should allow for some fun gameplay. It’s a nice display of colors. I enjoy the quirky characters and you can see them better when you get the bigger symbols. Sure, the green little guy holding a bat doesn’t seem too friendly but I guess we should take into consideration the fact that we are intruding on his territory. In other words, I’ll let it slide for this time.
As always with ELK Studios, there’s no denying the level of graphics, which is much appreciated.

Using Cluster Pay, you’ll need to connect 5 or more symbols to score a win. When this happens, the Cascading Reels mechanics kick in and will remove the symbols involved in the win and new ones will drop in.

Buggin has a major focus on Wilds and there are a lot of them, each with a unique little twist of their own. After landing a win, not only will you trigger the Cascading Reels, the symbols will be collected and you can see progression on the bar above.
Multipliers will quickly add up
Fill it Up and Enjoy
Every time you manage to fill it all the way, you will get a Wild including a modifier. When your cascading stops, these Wilds will be released “into the wild” and depending on which one of them you get, here’s what you can expect:
- Big Wild – Expands a random symbol into size 2×2 or 3×3
- Multiplying Wild – Adds a multiplier to all Wilds on the reels
- Random Wild – Replaces 2-4 symbols with Wilds
- Removing Wild – All low paying symbols will be taken away
- Upgrading Wild – Upgrades all instances of a random symbol
Wild Re-Drop
Trigger A Wild Re-Drop
You will notice a lock on the Wild Inventory above the progress bar. As you activate one Wild after another, you will be able to reach the lock and unlock it which will trigger the Wild Re-Drop.
All the collected Wilds will be released at this point and with a bit of luck you can get the effect of multiple Wilds and their respective modifiers.
X-iter
Put the X-iter to Use
On your left, ELK has an X-iter button that you can click on. This will give you 5 different options and game mode buy-ins.
- Super Bonus – Buy a game round that triggers the Super Bonus game costs 500x
- Bonus – Triggers the Bonus game by paying 100x
- 4 Feature Wilds – You will begin your round with 4 Feature Wilds. This costs 10x
- 2 Feature Wilds – Same as above but with only 2 Feature Wilds. The cost is 5x
- Bonus Hunt – Buy a round with a higher chance of triggering a bonus for 3x
The Bonus Game will give you 7 Free Drops which can be re-triggered. Unfortunately I didn’t get the full Super Bonus experience during my trial run and wasn’t too excited about having to pay 100x-500x for it.

Buggin – Pass or Play
I’m glad to see a fun-loving game like Buggin hitting the market. Players need something like this that can put you in a good mood just by looking at it. The summer vibe goes a long way and by backing it up with some fun gameplay and cool features, I believe Buggin will be well received by players.
I enjoyed the variety of Wilds and how they were put to use. Once you trigger a drop, you never know what’s going to happen and if it’s your day, you can build some solid wins from it.
The cheeky characters add some personality to the reels and I hope to see more of them going forward. ELK knows how to design a slot and they deserve credit for another cool and creative game.
It’s a definite Play for me!
