In Greek mythology, Artemis is the Goddess of hunt, nature, wildlife, animals and a few other areas. Her twin brother Apollo was the God of archery so there’s no surprise that Artemis is a master at the art herself.
Pragmatic Play has brought Artemis back into the spotlight by launching the Bow of Artemis slot at the end of July. In this new game, Artemis hosts an array of animals including bears, wolves and deer on a massive 8×8 grid. Your success will come down to your ability to create winning clusters and consecutive ones if you’re looking to win big.
I was curious to see just how Pragmatic had managed to put it all together so in order to be able to tell you all about it I had to take it for a spin. Artemis might be the one with the bow and arrow but today, she is the one with a target on her back!
Exciting Look That Appeals to Players
I’ve always been a fan of big grids as I find them a lot more exciting than the ridi 3×3. It gives you the feeling that there’s a lot going on and that you won’t have to struggle to get a win. Even though there are a ton of symbols involved on the grid, which normally would make it look cluttered, the overall vibe is great.
Clearly Artemis is still the one in focus even though she’s simply watching over the grid from the side. As you play, you’ll hear her soothing voice mixed with some graphic effects to make the game feel even more magical. There’s a nice, relaxing soundtrack that will put your mind at ease and help you disconnect from the world, just the way we’re hoping it will.
Narnia Recruits?
The 3 animals in the above screenshot are the highest paying and as you can see, they’re not your regular animals. Yes, it’s easy to tell what type of animals they are but because of the bling they’re wearing, you know they have some level of extra powers. Would you be impressed to hear they come from Narnia?
First Impression Leaves You Wanting More
My first impression is great and I feel there’s definitely enough here, at least visually, to make me want more and to see what else Artemis is hiding in her quiver other than arrows.

Tumble Feature Leads to Success
Well, that’s a stretch but it is true that the Bow of Artemis uses the Tumble feature. If this is an unfamiliar feature for you, don’t worry, I’ll run it through quickly.
The Tumble feature is quite common and can have other names. What it means is that after every spin, all the symbols involved in the win will disappear and be replaced by fresh, new symbols. This gives you an additional shot at scoring another win which will add to your first one. Should there be another winning combination, the cycle will repeat itself and you’ll see new symbols filling in.
This re-spin scenario will continue until you score a winless spins.
Keep in mind that the Tumble feature is also enhanced through colored marked spots on the grid which award different modifiers each time. I’ll go through the colors next.
What Does Each Color Bring?
In the base game, you will see certain symbols get a colored frame around it and when a winning combination includes a framed symbol, you will be awarded a modifier as I previously mentioned. The effect won’t take place until your current spin is over.
Let’s take a look at what you can expect from each color:
Brown – The Chase Begins
Your screen will be cleared of all symbols and new ones will fill up the entire grid
Teal – Wild Pack
All instances of one random symbol on the screen will turn into a Wild
Purple – Big Game Hunter
Random blocks of 2×2 symbols are added in random positions
Red – Colossal Game
A random block of 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5 symbols will be added
Blue – Lucky Wilds
Anywhere from 5 to 1 Wilds will be added to the grid
Green – Power
Between 10 to 30 of a random symbol will be added in random positions
With a bit of luck, you’ll manage to load up on multiple modifiers on the same spin and they will be put into use in a particular order.
How to Play The Hunt Progressive Feature
As you keep scoring wins, the more symbols involved the better. This is because they are all counted and used to fill up The Hunt meter that you’ll see on the right hand side. As soon as you hit a certain number of collected symbols, you will trigger The Hunt feature.
Try your best to keep that Tumble going because when you hit a winless tumble, your Hunt meter will reset back to zero.
There are of course different levels and they all require a certain number of symbols collected. To give you an idea of what it takes, here are the number for each level:
- Level 1 – 105 symbols to trigger
- Level 2 – 140 symbols to trigger and get +1 Multiplier
- Level 3 – 140 symbols to trigger and get +1 Multiplier
- Level 4 – 152 symbols to trigger and get +1 Multiplier
- Level 5 – 152 symbols to trigger and get +1 Multiplier
The multiplier system is a bit too complicated for my taste. If you land a bunch of extra symbols during Level 1, you can get 2x, 3x or 5x added. You’ll need a minimum of 140 symbols in order to get a bigger multiplier.
Buy The Hunt
With a complicated reward system, I’m glad Pragmatic gives players the chance to pay 100x your bet and trigger The Hunt feature without any questions asked. After having seen a couple of modifiers in action, I eventually decided to give it a shot in order to see the full thing.
Bow of Artemis – Pass or Play?
I was immediately attracted to the Bow of Artemis because of the big grid and it’s not often I find a game that can give you that feeling right off the bat. While everything is fun and fresh at the start, chasing modifiers can get a bit frustrating after a while if things aren’t going your way. We’ve all been there.
You get to test a couple of them and you can get on a little hot streak from time to time to keep you playing but I have to say, it wasn’t until I decided to cough up the cash for The Hunt I could really see its power.
This is where you see one modifier after the next, jump in to create wins for you. I tried it a couple of times and as always, you won’t get your money back each time. Also, 100x is a pretty hefty price.
Whether you decide to Buy The Hunt or not, Bow of Artemis is still a Play for me! It has the big grid that I like, great graphics, there are a lot of things going on and interesting modifiers. The game has a lot of potential and with a bit of luck, you can see some good money coming your way.
