This isn’t the first time I have reported on the increased number of crypto players finding their way to our beloved world of casino. The players have spoken and we keep seeing more and more casinos opening up to crypto play. Game providers are also pulling their weight by making sure to optimize their games for both crypto and Fiat.
Dealing with numbers are as close to heaven as one can get if you ask a small portion of people. The majority however do experience a level of nausea from the thought of having to deal with an Excel spreadsheet. Which one are you?
Interesting Information
With that said, there are still some statistics that can be fun to know. Or at least as long as it covers something you are actually interested in, right? I recently came across some interesting ones and I was hoping you trust me enough to let me share them with you without making you .
Clearly I’m exaggerating so let’s take a look at some interesting statistics regarding crypto gambling. Don’t worry, it’s actually quite fun!
1) Americans Spend Almost 2 Hours Every Day on Online Gambling
We all spend a lot of time online these days and when it comes to online gambling, North Americans are the ones doing it the most. Europeans are up there as well but tend to spend 10 mins less daily on average.
Rules and Regulations
What about the rest of the world? Well, they might not necessarily be less interested in gambling but remember, Latin America, Africa and Asia also have to deal with stricter regulations and laws.
2) 80% of Players Globally Do Their Gambling on The Phone
I’m not surprised at all by this, even if 80% is a high number. The way smartphones and wifi access has taken over our lives clearly has had a massive impact on how we do business and enjoy ourselves.
Casinos have been forced to create an appealing interface that allows gamblers to visit their favorite crypto casinos wherever they may be.
Yes, people are still using their laptops and tablets but the majority of the casino action is done on your phone.
3) As Many as 48% Of Millennials and 36% Of Gen Zs Will Only Bet Online
A study on Gen Z and millennials’ interest in Sports Betting and Casino Gambling, showed that 36% of the Gen Z demographic have placed bets exclusively online. 48% of Millennials however participated in online Sports Betting.
This all makes sense but the fact is that they also showed interest in visiting land based casinos. While a combined 70% of Gen Z and millennials are interested in visiting a land-based casino, each group has a different motivation. Vegas is still Vegas, right?
The study revealed that millennials are a “diverse generation that holds some remnants of traditional player values but are now driven to explore new experiences.” Through technology, millennials are interested in sports betting more than other demographics.
New Experiences and to Engage With Others
With that in mind, Gen Z are drawn to sports wagering as well as casino gambling primarily for new experiences. This younger demographic wants to engage with new acquaintances as well as experiences.
Interesting enough, as many as 64% of the younger demographic enjoyed gambling activities more in-person. Even more interesting is the fact that 59% admitted to taking gambling more seriously when playing a land-based location.
4) 2023 Crypto Gamblers Are 65% Male and 35% Female
Men have always been more prone to get involved in gambling of all sorts. Many of them see it as an opportunity to be one of the boys (sports betting) or use it as a way to satisfy a need for excitement.
During and after Covid, we have seen an upswing in women finding their way to casinos, which is a great thing. Sports betting is still highly male dominated but there are so many casino games that are aimed at everyone and some specifically towards women.
5) 70% of Crypto Gamblers Are Between Ages 31-50
This is a large portion of all players, as you can see. If you take an even wider look, ages 25-60 stands for as much as 95.7%.
Also, to refer back to point number 2. More than 50% of crypto GGR in Q1 2023 came from bets made on mobile devices: 64% of mobile users vs. 32% of desktop ones.
This is extremely important data to have if you are deciding on a strategy for growing an existing casino or before launching a brand new one.
6) Crypto Represent 25% Of All Online Gambling Payments
Crypto gambling is without a doubt the fastest growing sector in gaming. Today, both players and casinos (not all obviously) see cryptocurrency as a natural partner. We have come a long way and today, as much as 25% of all gambling payments are made with crypto.
Out of all crypto owners in the world, 48.6% of them use it for online gambling.
7) How About Winning 524.7 BTC on the Might of Ra?
A famous Twitch streamer with the epic name of ‘Trainwreck’ had the day of his life in March 2022 while playing at Stake. Having found the Might of Ra slot by Pragmatic Play, he placed a 0.023322 BTC bet.
A Non-Jackpot Win
After the reels had settled, he scored a spectacular 22,500x multiplier. This gave him a win of 524.7 BTC, which at the time was worth a jaw-dropping €21 million!
What’s even crazier, it wasn’t even a jackpot win!
8) Bitcoin is the Most Used Digital Coin
During last year, the top 3 most used digital coins were: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Litecoin (LTC). The same coins continue to dominate the market during 2023. The only difference is the market share.
During Q1 of 2023, the split looks as follows:
- BTC – 76.5%
- ETH – 8.4%
- LTC – 5.1%
Tether (USDT) managed to squeeze in and took a 5.1% share for the first time. Dogecoin (DOGE) on the other hand had to settle for a 2.5% share at the end of Q1.
