Another push for Bitcoin awareness into mainstream media culture is in the works and players can add cryptocurrency to a list of features already containing slot machines.
345 Million Units Sold
When it comes to video games, it’s impossible to ignore one of the biggest franchises ever, Grand Theft Auto, where every new release is bigger than the previous version. Having sold more than 345 million units worldwide, players are counting the days until Grand Theft Auto 6 hits the shelves.
For Rockstar Games, the company behind the popular game series, it’s a constant challenge to make them as realistic as possible and stay up to date. For example, you can already enjoy visiting the casino and try your luck on slot machines in the online version.
With that said, it should come as no surprise that insider reports are saying that cryptocurrency will be introduced as a payment option for the many thrilling secret missions.
Make Untraceable Payments
With a number of big shot contractors looking to stay anonymous while asking you to do their dirty work for them, the crypto will help them make untraceable payments for your services.
Earlier this week, industry insider Tom Henderson leaked the news on Twitter.
“I heard recently that in GTA 6, some missions will reward you in bitcoin instead of cash for completing some missions. The stock market feature will return, with the addition of a broker for different cryptocurrencies. If GTA 6 incorporates this right, it’s huge for crypto.”
Grand Theft Coin?
The appearance of a “GTA bitcoin” or another fictional cryptocurrency could raise popular awareness of the real-world crypto space. We highly doubt the final name will be Bitcoin but we are looking forward to how far Rockstar Games will let their creativity go in terms of a name.
In Different Ways Than Before
If the reports are true, it won’t be the first time Bitcoin or other crypto has been featured and referenced to in popular culture. For example Family Guy and The Simpsons have used crypto references numerous times. Add to that the blockbuster movie Crypto and the excellent StartUp tv-series joining in, the world is opening up to the crypto industry in different ways than before.
We Can’t Wait
The introduction of cryptocurrency in Grand Theft Auto will be unique in the way that players will be able to harness this crypto and use it in a persistent world. This will result in a kind of virtual, gaming experience of the real-world, digital asset.
We can’t wait to put it to the test but unfortunately the game is currently still under production with an expected release date of 2022 or maybe even 2023.
