Atlantic City to Lose an Iconic Casino Landmark

December 28, 2020 By Roary Leave a Comment

The land-based casino world is one steeped in history and tradition, and Atlantic City is arguably one of the birthplaces of the American casino industry.

But, that same city is about to see a landmark vanish from its skyline as the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino is set for demolition.

This casino and hotel was a huge part of the Atlantic Casino scene back in the day, but as more and more players opt to play online, the Trump Plaza fell empty.

The End of an Era

Opened in 1984 during the Atlantic City casino boom, the Trump Plaza quickly became an icon in the Atlantic City skyline.

However, after player numbers and guest numbers plummeted in the early 00s, Trump quickly cut ties with the building and it was thrown into bankruptcy.

It was then left to rot, with large chunks of the façade falling into the area surrounding it, causing the City council to mark it for demolition.

Owing to the American displeasure for Trump, the City is auctioning off the chance to press the detonator to bring this building to the ground.

Atlantic City Mayor, Marty Small Sr, is hoping to raise around $1 million for the pleasure of blowing the building to bits, with the money going to the Boys & Girls Club of America.

In Steps Online Casinos

Online casinos and the rise of Las Vegas’ popularity has undoubtedly contributed to the downfall of Atlantic City and the Trump Plaza.

However, since COVID-19 gripped America, forcing casinos around the country to close their doors several times already this year, even Las Vegas is beginning to lose its footing against online casinos.

Player numbers have been dwindling all year, with around 1 million making the pilgrimage to Vegas during its traditional busiest period of the year.

Since then, more and more casinos across the country have been forced to close down for a second time, as COVID number begin to spike yet again.

This is a great time for online casinos, with the likes of BetMGM set to scoop up huge swathes of players.

Launching only a few weeks ago in Pennsylvania, BetMGM is making huge moves as land-based casinos succumb to the rules enforced by their governors.

There are many online and Bitcoin casinos that operate in the US, but few are actually licensed and able to have American players.

This has resulted in an almost black-market type of casino, whereby casinos aren’t punished, but as soon as players reveal they’re from the US, they lose all of their funds.

So, it’s more important than ever that American casino players make sure that the online or Bitcoin casino they’re playing is fully regulated to accept players in the US.

This can be a bit of a task, but it’s far better than ending up with your money being taken in the blink of an eye because you had to complete KYC.

The Trump Plaza is set to be pulled down in February, following a delay, and hopefully it can raise the funds that the Boys & Girls Club of America needs to continue operating!
