I’m a big fan of King Arthur and his view on leadership through the round table for him and his fellow knights. Play’n GO just released a slot related to the story called The Sword and the Grail Excalibur. I can’t help thinking the title sounds more fitting of another Narnia adventure, don’t you?
Take a Seat at the Round Table
This image is from the intro of the game and it’s a very impressive room, perhaps even majestic enough to host that round table. Considering the connection to King Arthur, I assume it’s located in Camelot. A grand castle like Camelot will have a treasure hidden somewhere so perhaps you should see this game as your personal quest for the holy grail, i.e. the mighty treasure!
I’m not too interested in trying to pull a sword out of a rock so I’m on board using the reels to our advantage and get our hands on that cash.
Crisp Graphics Creates Excitement
This is a really good looking game and you will see that besides the already impressive backdrop, every single symbol is sharp and detailed. If only other providers would encourage this level of graphics, it would make every game a lot more fun to play.
Play’n GO enforces the theme by including King Richard, Sir Lancelot, Lady Guinevere as well as Merlin. On top of that, you will see Excalibur as the Scatter.
Whenever you land a winning combination, it will get a fiery frame around it, adding a bit more action to the game. Sure, the variance is high but knowing there’s a 25,000x payout hiding somewhere in there is enough to keep you spinning.
Released: April 2024 | RTP: 96.20% | Variance: High |
Min Bet: 0.10 | Max Bet: 10.00 | Max Payout: 25,000x |
King’s Prizes and the Sword Meter
If you look closely above the reels, you will see a sword in the log and a variety of multipliers next to it. As you spin, the sword will be pulled out and show you a win multiplier.
The multipliers will range from 1x to 10x and when you land a win that includes the Lion Shield known as King’s Prizes, your multiplier will be added to your win.
Personally I think it sounds better than it actually is but it’s a nice looking feature seeing the sword being pulled out.
How to Get Free Spins
I was a bit disappointed when I realized that there wasn’t a Bonus Buy feature in play. Especially as it took me a really long time to gather the 3 scatters required to trigger the bonus round.
Eventually I managed to get the job done which sparked some blue lightning action on the screen.
Welcome to the Round Table Wheel
After the bonus round has been triggered, you’ll be facing the Round Table Wheel. Spinning it will help you determine how many Free Spins you will get as well as Sword Scatters.
My spin landed on 8 Free Spins and 3 Scatters, which I guess was ok. I mean it was the lowest possible outcome as far as Free Spins go, but what else is new, right?
Wandering Grail Wilds
During Free Spins, you will see the grail (Wild) wandering around from spin to spin. All Wilds are sticky and can move in any direction. If there are multiple Wilds, they will all move in the same direction and if you’re lucky they might just bring you a multiplier as well.
Collect Swords to Upgrade Multipliers
For every sword you collect, it will shoot energy to the meter above. For every 5 swords collected, you will advance to the next level of multiplier plus get an additional 3 Free Spins.
When I leveled up I was given the title of a Squire. If I’m being honest I had to look it up and this is what it said:
“A young nobleman acting as an attendant to a knight before becoming a knight himself.”
How about that, huh?
The Sword and the Grail Excalibur – Pass or Play?
I have to admit that the game had me fooled for a long time. Because of the soundtrack, visual effects etc, I felt that a big win was coming with each spin, only to be let down over and over again.
Let’s just say it really tested my patience and if it wasn’t because I wanted to get to the bonus round in order to be able to share my experience with you, I would’ve stopped playing a lot sooner. High Variance? Sure, but it honestly felt ridiculous at times.
When it was all said and done, I was able to get the full experience and as the case often is, the bonus round makes all the difference. There’s no doubt that the graphics alone make The Sword and the Grail Excalibur a slot worth exploring. I do wish there were a couple of more of the big features in order for me to call it a great slot.
Is it worth trying? Yes ✅ Will I add it to my list of favorites? No ❌
