You can almost hear the roar from deep inside the jungle because due to popular demand – The King is Back! If I’m being completely honest, if I didn’t have any context to that sentence I wouldn’t have known what to believe. Red Tiger on the other hand seems confident enough to market their latest release that way.
Second Time the Charm?
Red Tiger unleashed the first Primate Kingback in 2021 and after having a decent amount of success, King Kong(?) is now back for more. This time he doesn’t come swinging alone because he’s accompanied by 117,649 paylines, making this a Megaways version.
Like the majority of players, I’m a big fan of Megaways games so I’m curious to see what The Primal King has in store for us all. Looking at the data, I immediately spotted the 30,000x max multiplier which caught my attention and made me a little bit excited.
The facts are he’s massive and he talks a big game, but can he bring enough excitement to keep that attention? That remains to be seen but I guess there’s only one way to find out.
With that said, into the wilderness we go.
Welcome to the Jungle
There’s definitely a jungle vibe here and the graphics are pretty good. The symbols are perhaps a bit poor but then again, they’re obviously supposed to be authentic to the theme. You will see a treasure chest, some cool Inca or Aztec artifacts and as you can see, the backdrop sucks you in.
Red Tiger always has good graphics so I wasn’t worried about that part. I’ve already touched on the fact that it’s a Megaways game, which makes every game better.
I’m curious to see what this game has to offer in terms of fun features.

Same Thing Different Name
If you’re an experienced slot player, you’ve seen this a lot of times before. Whenever you score a winning combination, every symbol involved will be removed and new ones will drop in to give you a shot at increasing your winnings.
Names like Avalanche feature, Cascading Reels are some of the ones used for this particular feature. Red Tiger’s version is known as the Chain Reaction, which is in play here. You can get a preview of the visual effects you can expect in the screenshot above.
There’s no limit to this reaction so with a bit of luck you can keep building your wins and pocket some extra cash with each one of them.
Darwin’s Theory of Evolution?
Before you get all puffed up and attack people’s beliefs in Darwinism, just relax for a second. I’m not saying it’s facts but I will say that Primate Evolution is a vital part of the Primal King Megaways slot.
On the right side of the reels, you can see a progress bar. This is the Primate Evolution bar and it has 3 stages.
This will have an effect on your game because as you begin to play, you will play on 5 reels. When you finally make it all the way on the progress bar, you will open up another reel.
Collect Gold Coins
It all comes down to collecting the Gold Coins that appear on the screen from time to time. Whenever one of them lands, it/they will make its way across your screen and into the progress bar.
It takes as many as 30 coins to fill it up but along the way, you will clear levels. Each of them will come with a reward.
- Level 1 – Adds one additional Life Point to the PRIMATE WILD. With each Life Point added, the PRIMATE WILD stays for one spin longer on the reels after it forms a win.
- Level 2 – Adds one more Life Point to the PRIMATE WILD. Additionally, on the next spin the PRIMATE WILD will destroy the symbol 9 and it will no longer appear on the reels.
- Level 3 – Adds one more Life Point to the PRIMATE WILD and unlocks the chance to enter FREE SPINS.
Get All 30 Coins
It took me quite a while to get all 30 coins but it felt like a challenge I had to accept. When you’ve reached the last stage, the bar will disappear completely and leave room for the 6th reel.
Open Up Reel Number 6
This reel will only show high-paying symbols or gold coins. HOWEVER, once the 6th reel is in play, none of the gold coins can land on any of the first 5 reels, which feels a bit annoying.
On the other hand, you will not be able to trigger Free Spins until the Primate Evolution Bar is removed. More on that later.
Primate Wild
Here’s a guy I did not see a lot of. As a matter, I didn’t see him until the very end, making me wonder what this Primate Wild was. As I leveled up I was told he would stick around longer and longer, which made no sense since I couldn’t figure out what it was. When he finally had the nerve to show up, he did show why he’s worth the wait.
The Primate Wild is a so-called Super Wild, which will always land fully expanded. He will bring you a Multiplier of between 2x-7x, which sure helps. You can see in the image above that I managed to get the big 7x.
You should know that if the Primate Wild doesn’t help you win, usually he will disappear. However, if you have leveled up and been promised he’ll stick around for one extra spin, his Multiplier will get a +1 boost.
Free Spins – Way Too Complicated
Unfortunately I was never lucky enough to get Free Spins but I also think it’s very complicated to get there. First of all you need to have filled the progress bar up all the way, gotten the bar removed to expose the extra reel.
When that little task has been dealt with, you need to land a gold coin on the 6th reel. But that’s not even enough because the only way to get Free Spins is to also have a Primate Wild present when you land the gold coin. Come one, really?
Doing all that will get you 4 Free Spins. Man, it doesn’t even sound like it’s worth it, right?
Off-Putting and Demotivating
The fact that the Primate Wild will remain locked for the duration of the bonus round is expected to make up for it all. To be honest, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen such a complicated setup and yes, it annoys me.
Since I didn’t experience the bonus round myself, I had to get an image from Google just to see what it looked like. If the payouts are like the ones in the image then ok, it could be worth fighting to get there.
Primal King Megaways Slot – Pass or Play?
I’ve always enjoyed Red Tiger slots and this one seemed to have a lot of potential. I believe the graphics are up to par and the game looks great. I also enjoyed chasing the gold coins to fill up the progress bar.
What annoyed me however was the complicated way to the bonus round. I had to spend a lot of time and money to even get through the 3 stages. The fact that I had to land a Primate Wild at the SAME TIME as a gold coin on reel number 6 seems crazy.
I know the odds of doing so is probably the same as scoring 3 scatters in a “normal” slot but it doesn’t feel like it was even close and I have to say the feeling doesn’t exactly make you want to keep playing.
I understand Red Tiger wanting to create something unique but in making things too complicated, they lost a player.
The talk about “The King is Back” is wrong and I would like to take this opportunity to instead say “The King is Gone.” That’s right, I won’t be coming back to this part of the jungle.
